Smoke rises;
wafted on the wind of regret
as a million unredeemed words
change their form and become
ash and dust.
All those dreams and desires
penned in promise
to say something to the world
to speak my heart
to make concrete, illusion
now lie - grey and unwelcomed
in the fire of their unmaking,

As I watch the embers blow
in the errant wind
I remember,
the passion and pain
that led to them being penned
in the first place;
the hope that kept me going
when there was nothing else
the faith that moved mountains -
a grain at a time
the love, given unconditionally
and returned half heartedly
or not at all.

Images of my life
are now imprinted on my retina
and as the flame soars
the thoughts of worthlessness
anger
malice
and false pride
are redeemed in the fire of unmaking.
Purified in the corridor of my mind
they settle anew
hidden,
reborn
with new meaning and hope

There will be no phoenix rising
for this part of my life, I muse
as I watch the ashes and dust
blow away
and are lost to the wind.

My heart soars with the wind
I turn and walk into a new start with a light heart

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown

Kethry... You really covered alot of emotions here. I could feel the highs and lows as I was reading this wonderful poem.
I really liked the last 2 lines.

Always let your heart soar
It's never to late to make a new start...Paul

Keth,  a bit of reflection,  a reality check
of one's soul and where we are...

With a fresh breeze blowing through the
hair...as the step is firm and the stride
long as we journey into the unknown of a
new and brighter day...

Thanx Lynne,  you pen well many thoughts,
many feelings...

Outstanding write, Kethry

Poetry undoing poetry as catharsis.

In reply to "which way do we go?", the answer was never "straight", but, "progressively forward".
