If I were a poet, writing to please thee.
Would you still know this, would you just leave me?

If my words did find you, find you still debating..
Would they all just blind you, in their darkness waiting?

If I were a trusted man, would you once listen?
Or become spurned in the moment of admission.

Take my words to once digress.
Take my words to ponder.
Give to me your love’s caress.
Send to me your thunder.

If I were a cherished friend, would you retain me?
taking thoughts to heart, and not restrain me.

Take my heart within your hands.
Take my love inside thee.
Carry on without loneliness.
Journey on beside me...

IF I weren’t a poet, would I have known you?
Would we have ever met, sharing these words true?

(Sort of to the tune of "If I Were A Carpenter", can’t remember who wrote it) KJ...I KNOW you
know the artist)...go ahead, tell them...

lovely mag--

You reminded me of something I used to sing to my brother--a carpenter, unemployed at the time--

"If I were a carpenter and you were to pay me,
would you pay me in cash, I'll work--
under the table..."

Okay...see? Yours is much nicer than mine! But mine, really annoyed my brother!

Enjoyed this much! HUGS.

the poem is fabulous...I remember the song's existence, but right now I can't recall the tune because "If I were a butterfly" is running through my head. Have you heard that one? It's a Christian camp song.

Anyway, I'm really glad you're a poet, too!

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Sun,  I knew you would come through for me.
I am horrible with artist names...I could
sit here and sing that song, but don't ask
me to remember who sang it...  Thanx...and
yep,  any wrinkles are my fault....cause I
am sharing them,  have tooo many already.

Karen,  gosh...you must have been a truly
wicked sister... (grinning as she departs
the scene, knowing she has gotten in one
more jab)

BC....don't ask why,  just chuckle and
enjoy....You could have done this, being
the music maestro you are...

A beautiful poem, Barry... but now I have that song stuck in my head...
I didn't know that Bobby Darin wrote it...
I always thought it was Kris Kristoppherson...
Thanks Karilea for that info...

Hi Magnus, I remember this song and as a kid I loved it, but I had no idea who sang it. Now I do.
My only problem is, it is 3am here right now and I've been up for an hour because I can't sleep and I now have this song singing in my head over and over. But I can't seem to get by the first few lines heh. I guess that will get me off to sleep in no time, right?

A great write Magnus

Hi Barry...I enjoyed this, and the memories of the song.  I may even get out my guitar.
