Moved from a shack to a barn

We met as acquaintances of acquaintances
Her beauty and humor lingered
Met again as friends of an acquaintance
Her grace and beauty lingered on
And again as friends of friends

Once, as my new loves’ ex-loves’ new love
Yet again, well met
Her guileless, graceful beauty remained

Days pass weeks pass years
As each are coveted and discarded
By this one and that one
Me?, for reasons I know well
Her?, that’s not my concern
Yet, her sweet laughter lingers

Then, met again
She, still lovely, still open, still laughing
Me, still smitten
Rebound? or refound?
Do we? don’t we?

I have long treasured her Self
Admired and respected her Self
Though she has just brushed my being
I am loathe to jeopardize
Even this tangential relationship
By blunder stumbling
Into a place where I am unwelcome

Well, met yet again
Her spark has shocked in me
A reverie of forgotten past times
Uplifting pastimes set aside
In my quest to elicit the illicit

And now, it seems
Unwittingly and perhaps
Unwillingly, this thread through my life
Who has ever amused and bemused
Has, in fact, become Muse

I’ve reached out toward her
And groped around a bit
Hoping to make a connection
Less tenuous, more substantial
And found there a quandary

Though I am now, a better man
The mirror, I fear, contradicts
Young, strong and reckless
I am no longer
Peace, laughter and art
Are what I now long for

So, here’s hoping, sweet spirit
That through these days of days
That we will be ever, and always
Well met

wranx

Peace, laughter and art...and a pondering heart.  Enjoyed this soul search and the way you played with words.  Well done!

so she is your muse very nicely done, yes, what Martie said

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Ed
this is music
the wordplay
is the smoothest flowing river
I've heard from you
and
you keep the same wranxian spirit
as always
you hone
sharpen
each and every
knifespill
splash
until?
a joycean narrative in
ONE
word
WRANX

A very well crafted poem, Wranx...
and now you have found your muse, so of course you would be writing wonderful poetry.
btw... what is a wranx?
I hope it isn't anything which is predatory to a chipmunk?

Thanks to all, for reading and commenting here. T'was a little tale of a woman that has appeared in my life from time to time. (but not for a while now)
She would, alas, be one that got away.

p.s.
I have no idea, whatsoever, what a wranx is. But, I'm pretty sure that they don't eat chipmonks. (especially, the ones that are seeming made of iron. You are one tough lady Lyra and I admire your strength)

In reply to "which way do we go?", the answer was never "straight", but, "progressively forward".

Poet deVine knows what a wranx is, Lyra. She wrote a poem where it is, I believe, something you wring out?

Ahem. Ed, I just wanted to say, this poem seems gentle and maybe even a bit fragile, but just try to break through it, and you find the solid-steel constructions of a wordsmith.

I'm glad you post here, in other words.

this is sort of sad but it shows a growth, a better man, yes. Very nice read for me. I enjoyed this.
