Here again
just on the other side of midnight
wishing memories would stay in their corners
where I put them
where they are living out their life sentence
put upon them by my unwilling heart.
I keep passing grey
grey clothes
shirts that scream from department store racks
(the kind that spin in a circle so you don't have to actually use your limbs and walk around it)
those shirts reach out to me with flaired wrists
some flaunting a sheer fabric
and some thick enough to hold a heartbeat in if one were to show beneath
beating and playing like a mouse beneath a carpet in one of those absurd cartoons.
skirts that flirt the boundaries with their hems
shy skirts
bold skirts or brazenly split skirts
and they're all attractive to me
bludgeoning me with their calm demeanor
like nice department store ladies who tell me that
loud pink dress with ruffles that swallow me
really would look good on me
(shuddering)
then there are these infuriating grey skies that threaten the voyage across the ocean I wanted to take
before a welcome Autumn claims the summer I never got to participate in.
I'm afraid of drowning in that ocean
blanketed in grey
staring at me as if trying to hyponotize me and suck me under.
It promises storms with a malice and waves its frothy wind swept ardor at me
like a stranger trying to lure a child from a park
deceptive and rating high again on the shudder scale.
Then my mind
grey
better than black
but so alluring yet.
My mood
grey
and the grey in my mood isn't so calm as it used to be
and beyond simply exisiting I don't know what else I could do if my walls were permanently painted that color.
Go mad perhaps
and repaint them with the colors of my screams
only to have that grey againj
so deceptively serene that I could drown in it
just like drowning in that ocean.
so it seems grey is not my color
and yet I am making the fashion mistake of my emotional life
by being its unwitting victim
buried beneath the clouds
choking on constant gloom.

I will not bend to the cowardice of a silent judgement.

OMG, this is unreal grey sadness. I love the way it is written, but hope your days are not so grey as depicted in all this imagery.
But if so, can I send a cerulean blue sky, or a bouquet of yellow roses your way?

Ahhhhh ... but isn't "grey" just one of the many shades of blue?  I suppose blue can be forboding too, but when displayed as clear skies and crisp clean water it then encourages smoooth sailing ahead.  So shake out those "wishing memories" and put them in the spotlight so your focus will stay away from those grey shadows.

Ohhhhhh...what a mood I am in tonight....running amok.

Great read here Jennifer!

When gray is blue, or, when blue is gray, we find the secrets of the heart.

Thank you.
