My grandma's antique dresser,
It had a magic mirror,
And I became a princess
When into it I'd peer.
When I went to Grandma's house,
The first place that I'd go,
Was up the winding staircase,
Far above the world below.
I'd creep along the corridor,
Floorboards creaking all the way,
Heading for my secret room,
So near, yet far away.
The heavy door swung open
As I pushed it far and wide,
I'd feel myself changing
As I ventured forth inside.
The mirror stood in the corner,
Atop a dressr of ebony,
Neglected and long forgotten,
By others, but not by me.
I'd twirl around and sing a song
As my dress turned into silk,
Drab brown hair became golden curls
And my skin as fair as milk.
As I gazed into the mirror,
A castle came to view,
Turrets reaching upward
Into a sky so blue.
'Twas in this magic kingdom
That my charming prince did rule,
Some day he'd take me out of
My world so cold and cruel.
Upon a golden stallion,
He'd charge forth and carry me,
Back to his land of sunshine
Where I'd finally be free

To be a child one more time and say "hey, let's pretend...." well done. Chris

Earth Angel - you took me back in time with this one.  I could see you climbing the stairs to look into that magic mirror...

I'm so pleased that you have all responded so positively to my poem. Whenever I read it I am intoxicated with a sense of nostalgia.
Fortunate am I to have had such wonderfully magical memories of my visits to Grandma's house!

Would ya settle for a fairly dashing Toerag on a camel?.....Okay, how about a sissy Prince name Balladeer on a jackass?....Okay, how about just writing some more of this class poetry?

I am honestly honoured (I just love alliteraion!) by your warm responses to a poem that is near and dear to my heart. A tear wells up in my eyes as well when I remember myself as that little girl. In fact she still resides in my heart and I talk to her often.

I would welcome you to visit another poem of mine "Summer Days" that can transport you back to those magical days of your childhood.

Awwww Linda, this is a wonderful memory of your visits to your grandma'shouse. I sure wish I had had a grandma to leave me with such wonderful memories. I use to feel a little envious of other kids who had grandma's to visit.
