For Sale

Hundred Year Old House
with memories of old
no ghosts to haunt
no treasures to find
just touches edged in gold
decorated with love and care
needs new owners
12 rooms to share

Well written, the sadness of the house for sale. Always touches me, when I see the signs and pass the empty porches, and so much history embraced in plaster walls.
Someone will love it again. ThisDiamond

I don't believe anyone will ever love it as much as I have for the last 24 years...

Been about that long for me too, in the 19th C house, but it is as much an albatross now as anything.  If houses had their choice of owners . . . I wonder . . .

Good luck with your new situation, M.

That '12 rooms' is sooooo tempting. I could get lost from the other 5 once in a while. haaaa j/k ... sorta. *s

And on a more serious note, your poem says more than you didn't say I'd imagine. No doubt those walls envelope so many memories, each crack in the plaster was lovingly filled, each molding lovingly grounded. You hands can find another one and new memories can begin. *s

I love this, Maureen...
I think houses have personalities which are written into their walls.
I will try to find my house poem and re-post it for you in a bit...

I myself have never sold a house, but I know the memories they can contain. When my Mother sold the house I grew up in it broke my heart...but be of good cheer. It's not the house that makes the home, but the people in it. Good luck.

Maureen,
It's hard to let go of a place where you've lived. But the way I look at it is, now it's time someone else can share some memories there. Though of course, my experience in this is a lot less than yours. I've only had to worry about apartments, and my hometown when I moved...

Nice poem, but it's a bit far for me to travel.

I thank all of you for your kind concern...I am struggling to hold onto it, as it is the only thing beside my health that is valuable to me..in more ways then just money.

passing shadows..I may just do that ..rent a few rooms out...I am still working on a few plans to stay here.

Some days the easy solution would be to sell and the other day I was overwhelmed by threats from my temporary other half at this time and anxious about how to keep up the payments. But today has been a good day, a
positive one since I spent much of my day researching solutions.
and Lynne...you won't be that far away  in a month..but I will not be home either *s
Thank you ALL again.
