Ghost In A Vase.

A ghost in a vase,
A voice in a jar,
Lost in this maze,
I gaze from afar.
At a land where freedom,
Commingles with fate,
And the only restriction,
Is my own self restraint.
A  mustard seed among thorns,
On cracked and bitter ground,
Drowning in limitation,
I nudge against society’s walls.
It is a box that cannot hold me,
I need more room to grow,
Who are they to scold me,
When they don’t even know.
I dare challenge the author,
Of the laws that serve to judge,
The worth of my character,
By the one I choose to love.
Won’t you raise your head to face me,
Oh father of deceit?
And prove how can one’s race be,
A crime beyond repeal?
Why don’t  you answer this,
If you are worth your voice,
How can you choose to be free,
Without freedom of your choice.
For your own ideologies bind you,
In  mental chains from head to toe,
And you let  tradition blind you,
So you live  in an outdated world.
As for me I choose to leave,
And soon a new voice will be heard,
When my fullness is achieved,
I will dictate my world.
When you see me in future,
You will all realise your folly,
I pray then that your eyes will loose their scales,
And you will be free to see.

This sounds like you are talking to my mother, Gabriel...
She is totally outdated and bigoted...
She even still wears her hair all teased up like they used to...
But I still love her anyway...
She's 87 yrs old so I guess she has rights.
I enjoyed your poem...but you got me squinting again

Excellent work here, Gabriel. (It's twice as nice when I can admire the construct of someone's work AND agree with the philosophy )I particularly like the closing lines--the scales on eyes, hit a subconscious image of "scales of justice"--not sure if that was intended but the visual startled me and made me smile a wry smile...

Applause.
