First of all I want to thank Sandpiper for allowing me to post a poem that is so UNCANNY, that it's hard to believe we were on the same wave length on
the same morning!!! It so happens, he posted his first and I didn't want to infringe on him so I withheld mine until I heard from him.
So now...With his permission, here is the poem that I wrote, and please go back and read his ( The Balcony )and you'll see what I mean when I say UNCANNY!! ;-)

BTW: I really do use my swing and deck at those hours of the morn....

EARLY DAWN
2:37 AM 8/25/02

But for me, my deck would be empty
at such an ungodly hour.
I'm reluctant to let go of the night,
knowing that dawn is fast approaching.
Only the creak of the porch swing,
the night sounds and my lonely thoughts.
It is at this time, just before the dawn,
that the intensity of my feelings
are the strongest.
It is at this time, when I let my thoughts
wash over me, as a babbling brook
washes over the rocks and pebbles.
Flowing and unstoppable.
Echoes of another day, play over in my
mind. I believed, I hoped and I dreamed.
All for want and all for what? To be
labeled. To become what I am now.
What am I ?Who am I ?
What ? I know that I'm wrong !
But damn it, who cares ?
Who ? I don't know. I don't know me
anymore. The truth rolls on and on.
Dodge it, face it,
but you can't erase it !
The dawn has approached,
forcing me to face another day,
hiding under a mask of deceit.
No worries, no cares.
My life is good...
for this day.
Early dawn tomorrow,
my deck will be empty, but for me.

Beautiful..the night has a way of sending the mind on a voyage of self discovery doesn't it?

I can honestly say I relate to your poem and love your take on that very special time of day!  Sounds like we both use that quiet time for some soul searching.  Oh, and I'm "she"

Oooops...Sorry Sandpiper! I didn't mean to
imply a gender, but it seems that I did.

It's gotten to be my favorite time for soul searching. I have trouble sleeping anyway, so
I head for my deck and swing!

Thanks for everything...

Kitty

WOW! Definately on the same wave length. And this too a lovely read about that special time after the night, before the dawn. In that pause of change. A lovely write!
