~My Little Alien~

from inside of me
came hiccups and sneezes and burps
every kick, each move
turns fresh in my memory's pain

you were a mystery...
for months, I wondered who you were
how you'd look

as they placed you
on my newly deflated belly
your fright howled louder than a tempest
on a dark night

I thought... you must not have liked me then
no maternal instinct had I

but it grew quick
like ivy on a brick wall
it's tendrils
twining themselves
into the mortar of my soul

oh you adorable little squirm of a worm
with huge questioning dark eyes

your head...shaped like a cylindar
hair standing on end
like a scared alien
plucked unknowing
from another world

your journey was swift and turbulent
pulled from the cramped comfort
of mommy, who nested you safely warm
with her pulsating flesh

with cruel slap of haste
you were suddenly here
in the glare
of this cold shiny place

and of course...
those straange faces
staring at you

its no wonder you cry...
my little alien
~
This poem is dedicated to the loving memory of my firstborn son

Today would have been his 33rd birthday
may he rest in eternal peace

Thanks so much, Martie...
I just had a crazy thought...
Eric always had a knack for finding trouble.
I wonder if he is up there in that very safe peaceful and harmonious place, causing some kind of trouble...
It wouldn't surprise me!

Lyra, doesn't it seem like there is always something to remember in a special way, and something that brngs tears? I'm sorry that you are feeling that today.

Thanks Sandra...
Today was his birthday...he would've turned 33.
I always think its not going to hurt that much and then it always hurts more than I think.  Its something that I will never get over.
I may even post another poem about him tonight.

Lyra...I guess,  that even though I lost my
mother at an early age (hers)...I have been
rather fortunate to not (yet, anyway...and
I pray NOT EVER)  have lost a child so young
in life as Eric...  My heart is there,  with
you,  and will remain...

Teary hugs back!

Lyra,
You said it was a sad poem. But know it put a smile on my face. Eric may have been the baby but mom was the babe!

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Thanks Larry...
and now you have put a smile on my sad face, tonight...
I think every woman is a babe when she's 25 years old!
Those were such innocent times... how glad I am that I couldn't see into the future..

Thanks Stacey...
The thing I remember most about first seeing him was that he looked like a scared alien, plucked from another world...
I hadn't thought about that in some time...but for some reason, I was reminded of it yesterday...and thus...the poem.

for that amazing compliment....
I wish you could have met Eric also... he was quite a person.  He seemed to know everything and we have no idea where he learned it...  just picked all this knowledge up out of thin air...
I miss him terribly, but no one can take my memories away from me...
