I Am, I Bare Myself

I am depleted
drained of vitality
that use to polish off
my existence.

I bare too much of myself
leaving me empty, too weak
to prove my abilities.

I wanted to mask myself,
cast myself in plaster
hang for all to see.

For there is nothing behind this face,
what you see is what you get,
the more of, in front of your eyes.

To search in depth
will only disappoint, my price
pathetic, the cost
to be loved wholly.

I bend to your wishes,
unable to stand erect,
rigidity lost upon words,
dieting upon passion's need.

To yield is to relent,
to be influenced without reason,
to that which I hold sacred.

My loss, your gain
nothing exchanged in return,
leaving me wasted,
drug-dependent on you...

For it is your talents
that I subscribe to,
the weight of your words
balancing a flair for excellence,
and a gift for drawing me to you.

I bare myself to only you,
naked are my thoughts,
revealing behind this face, a warmth
sustained for the wait...
the return of love.

M

You dare to bare to the bones. You left me nearly speechless this time, Maureen. This is an awesome, aching write.

I lean against the wind pretend I am weightless and in this moment I am happy

i know, Maur
it is sad when we fall bare
to the sword that trims the soul
and lays naked
the dreams, unborn, within.
