The Nebbish Bird

A nebbish bird sits my tree
Without a word, stares at me
Knowing all his thoughts that fall
All the things that rage recall

He haunts me with his hollow eyes
His body language speaks the cries
He walks the limb with folded wings
And mumbles ire’s raging stings.

He is the ghost of ego’s past
Those things of gone and did not last
But they remain a smoldering ire
That he would match and set afire

He stares at me in cowards glare
These embers I won’t light and dare.
He cannot pierce my shielding plate
It’s useless to rekindle hate.

So day-by-day he walks the limb
And I go on ignoring him.

My word of day from Sy at play
expands the very hole of me
who looks upon a Nebbish, tree'd.

Smiling here.  Only you would make me scramble for a meaning at O-dark thirty in the a.m.

In case you didn't see my note, Sy...please give Isabel a kiss upon the cheek for me in congrats of your very special life...

WOW!!! Ooohhhhhh...I love this metaphor, sweet friend, nibbish birds do always love to act kind of spunky, don't they, may you always fly like the robin and make amends or the true butterfly you are! (big hugggssss) This is wonderful, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a ebautiful heart, sweet Seymour, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

I've heard of the word 'nebbish'...it means a shy, timid and often weak person right?  but, yanno what? I've never heard of a nebbish bird...
well anyways, you used a great metaphor to convey the sadness within ourselves, when nature or outside things echo this fact and of course, to escape, we ignore it, though the reality is always there.
Perhaps I'm over-analyzing your poem, but, I relate to your words, this moved me in understand, and yes, I'm keeping it!~

Take care,
Melissa~

I really enjoyed this "Nebbish Bird", Sy...
I grew up thinking that nebbish was a Yiddish word which you would call someone as an insult...meaning that they were a "nobody"
or someone who was spineless and stupid...

Now do you have a stupid bird sitting in your tree?
or is this just a metaphor for what you are afraid to be?

I certainly don't think you are a nebbish, Sy..... not by any stretch of my wild imagination.
~ hugs from a chipmunk who will catch that nebbish bird

Melissa,
A metaphor for what I am afraid to be.
Yes Doc you got it right.

Lyra,
Nebbish is something that still haunts me. As much as I try I still can't seem to shake that bird. LOL
