~Shameless Attitude~

It quickly captures your attention
that strident squawk
dragging you away from your pleasures
and even your chores

it gnarls at your mind, incessantly
audaciously asserting it's brazen arrogance

impatiently, it rams it's shameless attitude
down your throat...
until you pay it some heed

no...it won't disappear
it calls your bluff
when you pretend its not there,
it returns
angrier than before

bold faced and rude
it jangles your nerves
with it's jarring, screeching shrill

sounding it's alarm
it shrieks it's tormented cry for help
it is
throbbing, corroding, unyielding...
***

pain!!!

Dear Lyra, my sweet friend, this one hits hard, I almost could feel the pain.
I hope with all my heart that you are ok, but I'm so afraid it's your own pain you're writing about.

You've given the pain a face sweet Poetess
A sad, but beautiful write.

Lots of HUGS to you pal.

Thanks for your reply, Titia...
Unfortunately this was written about the pain I have been feeling.
I haven't been able to describe it well, so I thought that if I wrote a poem about it...it might help.  But I am not a person who is used to having much pain and so I am completely incapable of describing whether it feels like bone pain or muscle pain, or some other pain.  On Friday, I will have a bone scan and I probably won't get the results until the middle of next week if I am lucky.  In the meantime, I am having a hard time walking...but otherwise, when I sit or lie down...it doesn't hurt at all.
I still hope to see you in Florida.  If I can't make it...you will just have to come and visit me here in Michigan and bring everyone else with you...

Thanks Sue...
It is about that pain in my left thigh, which seems to keep getting worse when I walk,  but it goes away completely when I am sitting down or lying down.  I won't know what it is for almost a couple of weeks, so for now...I am taking lots of Motrin and trying to stay off my feet.

Oh how well I know the feeling. I have arthritis in about 30% of my body now. You have described the pain I often feel very well here.  My heart goes out to you sweet lady.

AHHHH! Ouch that hurts.

I can certainly relate Hon as I'm miserable most of the time with arthritis in both hips. The picture is exactly how I feel first thing every morning. Grrrr.....

If you're hurting too, feel better.

Oh, Lyra...I'm so sorry for your pain, but glad at least that you can have relief when you get off your feet.  I guess you should listen to that message from your body...you think?  I hope you feel better soon.  Let us know how your test goes...Hugs..gentle ones.

Thanks for your reply, Anne...
I haven't been able to describe the pain because I have never really had much pain in my life (really!)  And I can't tell the difference between muscle pain and bone pain, so I thought if I wrote a poem about it...it might help.  All I know is that it hurts to walk and to put any weight on it...but when I am sitting down or lying down, I rarely feel it.
Next Friday, I'll have a bone scan but won't know anything until midway thru the following week.

Thanks Marti...
I am hurting pretty bad if I try to walk...
The pain is in my upper left thigh and I am very worried that its a cancer metasteses.
I won't know for about a week and a half, but in the meantime...everyone is telling me that it sounds like a muscle because metasteses are supposed to hurt all of the time and mine doesn't hurt when I am sitting down or lying down.
I've never had arthritis or anything like that so I really am not too familiar with pain...
I know this will make you jealous but I even went thru one labor with hardly any pain and one with no pain.....and no anesthetics...
I guess I must be a callous...  but this really does hurt when I walk.

I will keep everyone informed, but I probably won't know anything for about a week and a half.  I am taking the full prescription dose of Motrin and I know that its helping because when I wake up in the morning, after not having taken any all night...the pain is definitely worse...

Lyra, just as there are all kinds of pain, there are all sorts of ways to write about it to try to take our mind off of it, to try to minimize it.  If you feel better sitting down, then by all means, sit, and write of it, and in some way, perhaps you will minimize it to a bearable extent.  In the meantime?  We shall all keep you in our prayers!

I am beginning to think that God is beating on me...  and I am very very scared...

Thanks so much for your prayers, Karilea...
I am scared but I am also so very annoyed that I can't get up and scamper around like I usually do.
Every time I want something, I have to ask David to get it for me...
As it doesn't hurt me when I am sitting down, I often forget that its there and then I get up and start to walk and it hits me really hard... that was actually the inspiration for the poem...
It just won't be ignored...that obnoxious monster!
The prayers mean more to me than I can tell you...

~Mega-sighs and empathy~

Munk-age, i am saddened by hearing the degree of the pain caused, and i am sure most of it is not all in the nerve receptors.  This poem had a dagger-point emotional level to it that perfectly described an indescribable feeling.

I hate, so much, that you have to go thru this, time and time again.  I wish, if only for a few days, i could bear your pain and let you enjoy a day without it.

your friend, always
jeff

Lyra,

I'd hadn't seen you over in WCP, so I thought I'd check over here.  When I read this, I knew I was reading about physical pain you were feeling.  I certainly hope it is not what you are fearing it may be.  I will certainly keep you in my thoughts.

I walked for you this morning. Denver had two walkathons this morning. I got off the bus at the "wrong" park, and walked two miles in the cancer research walkathon, when Sara and I had intended to go to the AIDS awareness walk...three miles away at a different giant park! But now I see I was at the right park all along. Thanks for helping me get my sense of direction today. But I am really, really sorry about your PAIN. Healing thoughts are on the way over the Rockies...er, that's the wrong direction! I am so turned around here, I don't follow the NEWS...as I should. hugs, Kacy

To you, dear friend may the days be kind, may the nights be peaceful and may your heart bathe in the wells of friendship. For you have many.

I just read of your discomfort and I want so much to make you feel better. I am at a loss except to say, I am here for you any time you need me. I wish you relief and peace, these thoughts could not be any purer.

Thanks so much, Jeff... but I wouldn't want to share this pain with anyone.
It is actually a bit better today, but on Friday and Saturday it was exactly as described in the poem.
It seems to come and go in some kind of cycle and I have no idea whether its related to anything I did or didn't do or eat.
But today, I have been walking around without even limping very much although I am trying to stay off it as much as possible because tomorrow it could boomerang right back.
Sorry... I can't and won't share it with you , but thanks for your kind offer...

Thanks so much, Dave...  I have been away from WCP because we have visitors constantly for the past couple of weeks...
Friends and family...  and its been fun, but I haven't been on line much and have lots of catching up to do.  Hopefully, I'll get back to WCP again soon.
Interestingly, the pain seems to have lightened up a great deal today.  I can almost walk without a limp.  David thinks its muscle related and has been begging me to see a sports med doc, but I have a bone scan scheduled for Friday and would rather start here than get involved in something which I don't think its likely to be because that might cause it more harm than good.
If it isn't cancer, then I will see a sports med doc and we'll try to fix it and I sure hope that he is right and I am wrong...
but the problem is... the chipmunk is never wrong... she eats those smart acorns and they give her BRAIN POWER!
Thanks so much for keeping me in your thoughts.
I'll be in touch and let you know...

Thanks so much for your very kind words...
Pain is very frightening, especially when one has cancer.  I know that I wouldn't be half as scared if I hadn't gone through it with my first husband.
David and the rest of my family keep telling me that it sounds like muscle pain, but I know that is wishful thinking... I wish that too, but this is feeling familiar to me and I am getting scared.  I have a bone scan scheduled for Friday but probably won't have any results til the middle of next week...
I'll keep everyone informed.
