~The Incredible Shrinking Daughter-in-law~

This is for my incredible daughter-in-law, Courtney...who has lost 120 lbs...and still counting.I am so proud of her

And who are YOU?I queried

I didn't recognize her
though I knew I'd seen her in the past
her face looked so familiar
it embarassed me to ask

and then I recognized
the pretty wife of my own son
but half of her was missing
I wondered where it'd gone

this is her before picture

now she is much smaller
and so attractive is her face
in the latest fashions
she wears her pride with stylish grace

this petite and comely beauty
oh, she makes me beam with pride
has lost almost half her weight
her happiness is hard to hide
~

(smiles) Awwwwww, I'm sooooo proud of her too, it is indeed a miracle. One time I watched the Behind The Music for Blues Traveller and at one point John Popper weighed 400 pounds, who is the lead singer of the band and was very depressed, but he got a very risky sugery now he has lost over half of his weight at 180 and he is very happy now! (big hugggsssss) This is wonderful, sweet friend, your daughter-in-law looks so sweet in her picture, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Lyra, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

WOW! She looks great! I take my hat off to her. I think there are fewer things tougher in life than losing weight,,,it takes a lot of stamina and dedication, not to mention will (and won't) power!

My heartiest congrats to that skinny gal!!

Yes, yes, what Auguste said!  She can expect to live more energetically and likely longer as well. Feeling good about oneself is key, a body that feels good is of equal benefit.  Tell her congratulations as long as she's fine with the cyber world knowing.

I'm so glad you are happy for her.

Incredible. And I would love to say she just "looks" like a different person--but from experience? I know that she IS a different person.

The societal prejudice regarding appearance is a pet peeve of mine. I gained a ridiculous amount of weight after I had my kids--but then, in retrospect, the only creative thing I did for years, was COOK! I would also like to say that the emotional turmoil doesn't miraculously disappear with the loss of weight. Personally? I still feel a great deal of anger...sometimes to men, who suddenly are attentive, to women, who suddenly are NOT--it's disappointing. (I lost a few friends when I lost the weight.) Hugs to her..and you, m'friend. I would have posted a before and after pic?

But the before pics make me cry, even now.

Thanks so much Michael(Auguste)
You are absolutely right about that...
Her blood pressure is down and her knees don't hurt anymore...
That is even more important than her appearence...
but it is also so good that she now feels beautiful.  She was always beautiful inside, but now she feels beautiful on the outside too!

Thanks Noah...
He probably had that surgery where they stapled his stomach to make it smaller so he couldn't eat as much food...
That is a very risky surgery, and to me...it looks like the easy way out...but it really is hard to lose weight and some people just can't do it without that kind of help.  Thats why I'm so proud of Courtney....
She did this with sheer willpower and a bit of help from L.A. Weightloss...

Lyra,
How fitting that you pay tribute to such an incredible accomplishment! I'm betting she was always a great woman. But now she is certainly a healthier one. Regardless, she is a lovely lady to be admired. Woooooohoooooo!!!

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Thanks so much, Michael(Balladeer)...
She has so much willpower, it amazes me.
We went out to dinner last night to the Olive Garden...
and all of us were eating and eating lots of fattening stuff, but Courtney just stuck to her diet.  She didn't even have one mouthful of anything she wasn't supposed to have.  I think she is a walking advertisement for L.A. Weightloss...  In fact they have asked her to be a before and after spokesperson...

Thanks so much, Virginia...
You are right about the health part...and actually thats how her diet got started.
Her blood pressure was much too high...
But I am so happy to see her walking on the treadmill again which she couldn't do before because of her weight...
and she is just fine with posting this here...
I got her permission first and she gave me the "before" picture...
I took the "after" picture this week...
they are visiting from NYC, but plan to move to Michigan soon.

Thanks Karen...
I agree with you on all counts...
and have been through almost the same experience as you have... except I gained the weight when my first husband was dying instead of when I was pregnant.

I know that we really shouldn't care that much about appearance and that its really the inner person who counts...but the inner person feels so much better when the outer one looks good...and that makes both the inner and outer person healthier.
I don't believe in being model skinny.....not that I could ever get that way anyway...  but being able to fit into clothing and to run and dance is really important.
My mother has always told me that I was too fat....  I weighed 110 in high school and she wouldn't let me have any snacks after school because she thought I was too fat!
Now...that is taking it to the point of rediculousness...
and we wonder why our daughters are anorexic!

Having quit smoking I can relate to how hard it is to something as difficult as losing weight or stopping smoking. It takes tons and tons (no pun intended) of will-power, determination, hard work and even tears!

Please tell her congratulations for me and to keep up the good work. She looks absolutely fabulous!!!

Hugs, Marti

Having just met Courtney in her present 'reduced' state, I can't visualize her as her former self... She has such a wonderful personality, I'm sure she's going to love life even more when she's in her new and healthier state... Way KEWL..

Thanks so much, Sandra...
It is a wonderful accomplishment...
She had wanted to lose the weight for the wedding which was a bit over a year ago, but ended up by gaining more...
She was also really scared about her blood pressure...
so I am really glad that she did this!

Thanks so much, Kristin...
She did it through her own will power...
I hadn't seen her since last fall because they live in NYC...so I really didn't recognize her at first, until she spoke.
They are moving to Michigan in December so I'll get to see more of them.
