     Death and Robert

We could all see your joke
like a formality
we gathered in the reflection you made
in the tears of recall even as you insisted on a laugh

Turn over
the line is too straight where you slipped
like a gumbee you can twist back somehow
with your charm intact
down by the river wearing mukluks
and calling the dog

You left while my back was turned
and now when I say goodbye my voice
my voice catches like silly string on your grin
as I remember your vim and call stop

to somehow keep you in
but the trace was only a family resemblance
chained and shackled stumbling out the door
and you are free but also never more

I think I understand....

If only,  if only,  if only I could
One wish for you,  I'd give...I would..
But time does take and dash to dreams
those moments once,  in flow of streams.

If only,  if only,  if only I could...

Sy--The twist was made, but not by me...thank you kind sir

Barry--A friend died...so full of life and fun, his death almost seems a joke he played..but no, he is dead, or free.  His brother, who looks so much like him was allowed to come to the service from jail...he was chained and two armed guards took him out the door.  He is alive, but certainly not free.  I was expressing my feelings after the funeral service where everyone laughed and cried.  Thank you for being you!

We are never ready to say goodbye..no matter how much time we have.

In the space between now and then
I lost the fire, lost a friend
and Ill never be the same again
Still, I believe in the innocence
we gave away.

I am so sorry....at both sets of circumstances...
and for your loss, which you will carry,
because you are Martie...

"you are free but also never more"

You say so much with this one line, Martie...
I am so sorry about your friend's death...
and oh the bittersweet irony of his brother being still here but not free...
Thanks for sharing this with us.

I thought the poem was excellent without the explanation but now, knowing the story behind it, it is phenominal....great work, Martie.

Martie, you know how very sorry I am.  To lose a friend is often sometimes worse than losing a family member.  My most heartfelt condolences to both you and Taylor.  My prayers are with you, dear ones.  *hugs*

Sounds like a loss. An individual who knew how to please others while living with his own pain. A lesson to all. A footnote; it is said that federal prisoners are handcuffed to and in the grave. Enjoyed

Janet--I know how well you know this..heart hugs back at ya.

Karilea--You are sweet reply to me, especially the last part.  Hugs!

Nancy--It is just the way I feel needing to be expressed.  It is easier for me to write poetry than talk.  Thanks so much and hugs back.

Thank you, Noah, for being so kind.

Lyra--Bittersweet, yes...thank you for understanding and for the love hug.

Balladeer--It always pleases me to hear from you...even if you make me blush.  Thank you.

Michael--You are a good friend...I appreciate you...thanks.

Maree--Hi!  So good to see you!  Thank you for always being so possitive about my poetry.  Hugs!

Marge/sis--To get you and the deer to agree..is very special to me.  Thanks!

Richard--Thank you so much for reading and for the interesting information...how sad that is, if true, even in death, no freedom...at least not for the body.

Chris--Yes, heart felt..and thank you for leaving such a nice reply.

Martie - you invite us in to react with you to the life and death struggle we all go through when someone we love moves to the spirit world and leaves the life we are used to seeing them in.  A touching view of a life you cared for - great poetry - Paul

Martie, goodbye is not something I ever can do, and carry losses with me forever.  I feel this pain in my very soul and send you as much comfort as one can to a friend with words, may his spirit soar to new heights.  I wish his brother well too, as sometimes just being given a second chance is all he will need, and as for you, I wish you love and comfort at this time of loss. And, yes I agree with Michael too, your poem hit its mark Martie.
