Yawning Through the Dawning

finch slept in today
before he came out to play
seems he waited for the clouds to part
so sun could give his heart a start
and set his feet to “tap and go”
like my weed-eater
before the mow

and come alone
is what finch did
I guess the others
are still hid

he came to dine
in peace and still
all feathered fine
and dressed to kill

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.
