By the time
You get home from work today,
I’ll be packed and far away.
The note read.

By the time,
You find this note for you
They’ll be nothing you can do.
The note said.

By the time,
You realize I am gone,
You won’t know why this was done,
Probably not miss me here
Till after several beers.
I know you won’t even cry
You’ll continue to get by,
Joking on it at the bar.
I even left you the car,
Furniture and other things,
All except my pearl earrings,
And the clothes I left wearing,
Of our life I kept nothing.

By the time
You wake to another day,
That life will be far away,
You’ll be happy with your beer
That washed away my man dear
And left me a drunken lout
That would abuse me and shout;
I just could not live that way,
Instead of love you gave fear,
I left it all to be out.

No next time.

Been there done this one Professor...only mine wasn't a drunk which made the abuse even worse, you see, he knew what he was doing...I didn't write the letter, I just walked out the door!

They weren't pearl earrings they were little gold balls actually.  Boy, this will hit a nerve today, could be a lot of women's story, sure was mine!  I kept this one to remind me - never again!  Great job sir.

The most valuable thing you own is a smile, wear it, and share it.

Thank you, White Rose,
Very sad subject, the worse part is that this is true,
Too true, but ancient history.
The Lady of this poem has moved on and found happiness.
Pleased you liked it.

Thank you, hoot_owl_rn,
Then that gives him less excuse and proves his greater stupidly,
The letter would have been lost on him also.
Glad you enjoyed.

Thank you, Seymour Tabin,
You honor me with your praise.

Thank you, Zinsser,
I am pleased you liked it.

Thank you, Mysteria,
Her earring were actually diamond studs from her Grandmother,
I changed that to fit the poem better, gold would have worked also,
But that phrase “pearls before swine” sort of leaped to mind.
I hope you never have again, pleased you enjoyed.
