I cannot see what lies before my feet
on grounds of hallowed and white.
I simply choose to walk and touch
each stone I pass from in this light.

A smoothness masks over the jagged
reality of why...why.....why so many?
Thousands lie before me as I bow
in numb humbleness to those that gave to me.

Quiet, as were the moments of the day
lying upon the cold of ground in wait.
Listening for the sharp crack of twig
that one might see those opposed.

Sounds of the heart thumping endlessly
as ragged breath comes faster to a body
fearfully silent and still, in wait...eternal wait.
Till the whites are seen of a soul’s eyes...

Oh Father, why am I here, silent in wait
of doom?  Why must I stand and face
the demon foe, surely just a man as I.
Surely...surely so, just as I...a man.

Momma, dear Momma, hold me as I wait.
Blessed Mother, comfort thy son in need.
For time is nigh to meet the call, the cry.
Time is nigh for a son, many sons....to die...

Yea though I walk through the valley of
the shadow of death...I shalt fear no evil
....For thou art with me..
......thou art with me....

(Writing of the war may get old to some, but I could not leave this night without expressing
these feelings....)

Those last three stanzas are very powerful, especially the "Momma..." one. wow!

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Barry, I understand completely what you mean, it seems younger generations who live now after the war, because they never shared the experiences with their fathers, don't understand exactly how the wars affected their parents lives and it takes a heart-to-heart conversation to really help them understand! (sigh) This is powerfully written, sweet friend, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Barry, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

What a touching poem!
Couldn't help asking, U were in a war?
I'd love to know more.

Gabriel....in answer to your question....NO,
I personally have never been in war...though
I have read much of war and the feelings of
the men ....  some come from the gut of
just having the feel of it....  I am a
military veteran of 25 years....and I have
read much of war....  Plus,  I have watched
several excellent war movies which are very
close to reality in how they portray it...

Thanx for your thoughts...

I just write feelings very easily...
