      Pen and Paper
"Just look at me, I'm blank!"
Complained the paper to the pen.
"So what?!" the pen retorted,
"My tip's wiped clean again!"

Neglected and unthought of
For what seemed a long, long time
Boredom prodded at this pair
So used to making rhyme.

So when no one was looking,
When the coast seemed clear,
Pen rolled over to the paper
It promised not to smear.

They worked all night together
Pausing only once or twice,
For paper to warn pen
That curse words were not nice.

By morning's light they'd finished,
Displayed their work with pride
"I'm full again!" beamed paper
Pen boasted, "I still can glide!"

So if you notice scribblings
Where nothing was before,
It could be pen and paper
Have evened up the score.

Delightful piece Nightshade. Thanks for the read.

I guess one becomes content with one’s poetry when one opens the book ten years hence and does NOT exclaim, “Did I really write this?”
