she hit him like a wave
in a great surge from the sea
sweeping the floor of sand
right under his feet
and he tumbled
down to earth
while she laughed her hat off:
a tiny pink floppy
and her eyes had the wink
of the little child that she was
and her face had the chuckle
of the older girl she pretended to be
and all I could do was
wear a smile

what else is one supposed to do
to the amusing audacity
of a three year old
on her happiness textured
summer evening

and with him still lying
down on the ground,
and with her splashing
water all over him
I witnessed one of the most
beautiful sunsets of my life

...while she laughed her hat off...

I only wish you could see my smile!
What a way to start my morning!

Thank you, Sudhir!

delightful images and texture for the morning, even though it was of an evening that brought the images

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.
