A Gloom Sonnet

She was sweating in sweltering heat,
Each step taken was baking on concrete,
She longed for days end and the cooling dark
As she made her way to the brown grass park.

These are days of warmth dreamed in the winter.

Drought trees were dying in the hot summer,
Falling off brown not waiting for color,
Every movement was a heat stroke risk,
Where were those mornings when the air was brisk

These are days of warmth dreamed in the winter.

Then one twilight she needed a sweater,
Gone were the dripping days of mid summer,
All the stores had signs of Back to school,
At last fall was coming the year would cool.

Gloom

I bet  Gloom, that there  are not many  areas of the US that aren't suffering from the heat and little rain, looking forward to Fall...I noticed the leaves  browning off trees lately and crumbling in the heat.

Enjoyed your expressions of the coming of Fall...

There is a welcome sadness that comes with fall, but will be glad to get through the dry spell.  Very nicely written.

"These are days of warmth dreamed in the winter."
Gloom...how very very true this line is!!
We dream about warm summer days all winter...
then when they're here...
well....we want the cooler days back.
Excellent write!

I felt every HOT word. It is this way all over. With no end in sight. You captured here what so many of us feel in this terrible heat and drought.

(big hugggssssss) Oh Aszard, this is so sadly beautiful, sweet friend, I too yearn for those warm pleasant days all throughout the winter, for though winter has its special beauty I also miss the flowers and the birds singing! (sigh) This is excellent, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Aszard, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

When scanty sandals can't be found
and scandalous midriffs stare at sun's hold
When string bikinis bound in the warehouse profound--
These also the days of winter, when warm dreams unfold.

When you think you have heard it all,
listen more closely.

Excellent writing as usual and this stanza is ringing loud here...

Then one twilight she needed a sweater,
Gone were the dripping days of mid summer,
All the stores had signs of Back to school,
At last fall was coming the year would cool.

Vancouver is cooling down at night, the stores are in full swing for back to school and the beaches are thinning out as only the brave spend their time now.
