I should have awakened
To find you beside me
Sleeping the sleep
Of the ravishing, ravished
Arousals’ aromas still
Fresh in the air

I should have awakened
To find you still wanting
To rekindle the embers
That burned in the night
The fever of fervor yet
Warming the room

I should have awakened
To your murmuring purr
Your beguiling beseech
Of yearning unyielding
Regaling reminders
Of exalted exclaim

I should have awakened
Long before now

~wranx

In reply to "which way do we go?", the answer was never "straight", but, "progressively forward".

Falling headlong into heartbreak (or, realizing the place to where you've fallen), your words still thrill.

And I should have read you long before now.  This is really an incredible poem.  Couldn't pick out a line of it 'cause I wish I'd written it all!

Wranx-

Your imagery attuned to every sense here... how could you sleep?  *weg*

A decoupage hobby?  Not unless you were planning to layer her skin with your words.

Squirrel dude ~ yeah, this thing is generic enough to work on many levels, it does, however take my penchant for alliteration to a all time high.

Duncan ~ thanks much for your praise, means much

Seymour ~ Thanks to you as well for the thoughtful reading of it.

Indigo ~ "to layer her skin with your words" is a poem in itself. Perhaps you will write a piece with this. Or perhaps post a challenge. BTW, thanks for your kind comment.

Sandra ~ You said it best, once or twice, within this forum, but "alas" does nicely.

I do not know why,
but I think to read this
by soft candlelight,
on parchment,
would make me want to
shed a tear...

it is very beautiful...

I have just spent some time reading postings that have passed me by due to my absence or rush...and felt like commenting on all of yours.. I chose instead to comment on this one by saying it is at times as if looking into a mirror when I read your words...and I find the form and structure familiar and an easy digest..though the subject at times may be painful...

I know now I am hooked... as I truly like your style and use of word and image to take the reader through the feel, while still presenting enough logic for the other half of our brains to be pre-occupied enough to let us sink into the depths of possibility expressed.

From what I can gather, you are wide awake now, and as they say, "Better late than never!" The next woman in your life will be fortunate indeed, for she'll have a man who is awake on many levels!

Wonderful writing as always!

Another super poem.  I think I'm becoming a wranx follower.  I like the way you use your words--

ravishing, ravished
arousal's aromas
fever of fervor

and so on and all the stanzas flow so well.

Thankyou for the read, I enjoyed.
