Stampede

Thoughts stampeding through the night
On mustang hoof in freedoms flight
Rush by and rumble in my mind
In billowed dust it leaves behind

My thoughts are on a wild chase
With running foot at mustang’s pace
The heartbeat keeps a startled eye
At blurry motion passing by

Impulsive flashes through my head
Are not the dreams of slumber’s bed
But truth within a lightning bolt
The birth of speed in suckling colt

These visions round in circles fly
And in the night they mystify
The gallop's thunder of a hoof
Swirls round the canyons of the truth

No sleep tonight, for restless eyes
In midnight black now recognize
Deception’s jolt, the roar of strife
That comes and goes within a life

There’s sweat upon my summer gown
For dust has not yet settled down
A trusting heart has been my doom
And turmoil rumbles through my room

A dreams a dream, but I’m awake
And view a nightmare’s trembling quake

the rhythm of hoofbeats seems to rock this piece down the page

vivid images in rapid fire, almost, it seems

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Oh My Lizzie, only you can cause tears of laughter and pain all from one poem...(I know I should go stand in the corner after saying this I bet

Thoughts stampeding through the night
On mustang hoof in freedoms flight
Rush by and rumble in my mind
In billowed dust it leaves behind

Oh boy I thought my tears of laughter wouldn't stop here, and I had visions of what those little horsies left on the floor of your mind as they stampeded through.

No sleep tonight, for restless eyes
In midnight black now recognize
Deception’s jolt, the roar of strife
That comes and goes within a life.

There’s sweat upon my summer gown
For dust has not yet settled down
A trusting heart has been my doom
And turmoil rumbles through my room

Awwww, and here is where I wish I was there with you, each holding a spoon and a huge container of Haagan Daas to soothe our souls. Soon this dust will settle.

A dreams a dream, but I’m awake
And view a nightmare’s trembling quake

Don't let those people get you down,
They're not worth the effort of a frown.

*** huge hugs *** (next time call I never sleep)

The most valuable thing you own is a smile, wear it, and share it.

If I had my way? everyone would read you...
the thought may appall you, but I'd have your verses on the sides of city buses--
written on the windows in subways...sigh...

d'ya know how that would have made my day, once, a long time ago?

You are golden, Liz.

Very nice... Paul
So many times I find myself in this position.
No matter what you try nothing seems to work when you can't sleep.

THank's for reading and listening!
Your comment is very kind Thanks!

Mysteria, dear Mysteria, Pass that Haagen Das over here. I almost called you last night but the horses stopped (and didn't leave anything in my room) Sometimes I wonder if this is a poetry forum or a psycho session. hehe. MOre like a friendship circle, and you, my friend, make me laugh. You are too much! Talk soon

serenity, Oh I would love to see a poem on the back of a bus! How cool! You are as creative as Mysteria, but oh, what a compliment. Thank you!!

Paul, I count mustangs instaed of sheep. They REALLY keep you awake! Thanks, my friend

Oh, I forgot to tell Sharon this was just a poem!
