~Treasure Trove~

She had found a treasure trove
an attic full of motherclothes
discarded, old and out of style
all around, the garments piled

old high heeled shoes with pointy toes
dress-up gowns of frilly flows
big hats flowered round the brim
long white gloves, their fingers, prim

dresses trimmed with ruffled lace
old sachets which reeked of grace
a bathrobe made of pink chenille
a sexy gown of satin teal

makeup in a plastic case
to beautify her childish face
lovely silken underwear
and decorations for her hair

all dressed in vintage clothes, she saw
a little girl transformed in awe
in this cluttered cozy space
mirrored back...her mother's face
~

perfect words for the picture

and something tells me this was inspired by Martie's recent piece about the cardboard

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

(smiles) Awwwwwwww, I just love going t special places and markets like this, and bringing a child along I bet must be so beautiful as they always find gifts of their own as well as share that special relationship with their moms! (kiss on cheek) This is beautiful, sweet friend, I love it, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Lyra, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Lyra

I loved my grandmother's closets...she had been to china and had such fabulous things made of materials that slid, and hats, oh the hats.  I loved this poem!

Ohhh...Lyra, you brought back the most wonderful feeling for me...Dressing up in my girlfriend's attic when we were nine years old. The feeling was kindred to an sudden drop in pressure...almost surreal as our imaginations opened and we looked at the future for the first time. Wonderful poem. ThisDiamond

Oh Lyra, this is FABULOUS!
I want to come and play with you.
I think I'll skip the spike heels with pointy toes though. My feet never did recover from wearing them. But I had a red pair that were to die for!!!!

Hugs, Marti

Thanks for the smile. How did I end up in your attic? Oh ... I must've jumped onto the window ledge from the tree, looking for acorns in hard-to-reach places.

No acorns, but plenty of nesting materials!

Lyra, I love this so much. I love antique clothes, and family heirlooms so much. This is just wonderful.

PS
Did you ever see the movie The Two Worlds of Jennie Logan, from 1980? She found the most beautiful dress and hat in her attic, which made her go back in time to find her true love..

Thanks for your reply, Virginia...
Sorry to disappoint, but I had already had this poem written when I saw Martie's poem...
It did seem very similar....
kinda like this poem in reverse...
In her poem, the mother finds the daughter's things and in this one, the daughter find's the mothers....

Thanks so much, Donna...
When I was in high school, I used to sneak into my mom's closet before she was awake and borrow her clothes to wear to school.
And when I came home, she would always say...

Thanks so much, Martie...
My mother's closet became more fun for me as I got older because I was able to actually fit into her clothes....
but I don't ever remember being allowed into my grandmother's closet...
I used to steal my mom's clothes every morning in high school.... it really expanded my wardrobe quite a bit.

But neither of my sons ever borrowed my clothes....   but I used to borrow their sweaters and sweatshirts all the time.  Of course I had to wash them right away because otherwise they would smell the perfume and realize that I had borrowed it...

a happy story of Dorian Gray, and the transformation to a Wish is complete.  Most every girl wants to be her mom; most all guys want to be their father, at least for a few moments.   Surrounding herself with wishes, it is not until she looks into the mirror
that she has made her wish come true
and lives in that moment
for all time

You are right about kids wanting to be their parents, Jeff...
but that only lasts until they are teens...
then they want to be anything BUT their parents...
I hate it when I look in the mirror and see my mother staring back at me...
I love my mother...I just don't want to be her.
Thanks so much for your reply.
