and the response from Magnus:

home again
stateside
less than a week
happy to have him here
no more fear
of a call
with a Red Cross card
or a military jeep
appearing in the yard

home again
rest granted
for thirty days
someone there again
to share the sheets
hear the night sounds
serenade with zzzzzzz’s
in the breeze

a morning came
hours, too,
accumulating in twos

I sneaked in
to acquire attire
mouse steps had been my goal
yet, not quiet enough

never again
would I hope to see
those frightened, terrified,
horrified
eyes
staring back at me
while sleep
crept away from his brain
like molasses

happy no rifle,
no grenade
were in his reach
I’d not be here to teach
of the endless horrors of war
unceasing terrors of Nam
leaving no one numb
to the shredding
of inner peace
not even for those
who did not attend

rather stayed
and waited for the end

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

(big hugggssssss) Oh Virginia, like Barry's poem, this really deeply touched my heart thinking of the apprehension those who wait for war to end must feel and finally hanging onto one last breath when it finally is peaceful again! (sigh) This is powerful, sweet friend, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Virginia, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

VAS...this one gave me chills...good chills
mind you...

You have said it very well of the reality
of coming home from war......sometimes
waking to the nightmare of reliving horrid
moments that one can not bring to the lips
and share...

So many,  from each of those wars,  have
sat in silence for years,  living those
moments over and over again....the thought
of talking about it too painful....

Some are just now able to speak of it, the
war and what they saw and felt...  Too
many others took their experiences to the
grave with them...that last safe place,
away from the horrific sights and sounds of
what has been man's one terrible destiny for
thousands of years...

Thank You for letting us feel what they
felt...

VAS,
insightful poem into the horrors of war that continue beyond the deed.

Those who fought in that war, will always fight it in their minds...
So very well expressed, Virginia
