One morning when I awoke I found my Grandpa sitting at the kitchen table with tears in his eyes as he drank slowly from his coffee cup.

I didn't know why but I did know that I could smell pancakes like grandma used to make and the radio played a old love song.

Grandpa caught a glance of me and smiled then said with a cracked voice as he wiped his tears " Good Morning, I am sorry if I woke you. Memories make a person crie sometimes."

This is what he tells me as he sets me upon his knees. He then chuckles and says, " happy and sad go hand in hand. Some people call this love."

He then smiled and said " one day you will understand."

Grandpa then stared out the window followed by more tears with a smile on his face.

He says in a low voice to me, " when I was your age, 50 years seemed like forever. Today would have been our 50th, and it feels like yesterday."

He starts to hum with the old love song and then I realize why Grandpa had tears in his eyes that ran down his face.

Thomas, I believe this is the first time I read anything by you.  I like your shadows...and am looking forward to finding more magic dust...
