The Truth Will Ultimately Come Out!
By Larry Chadwick
A true story.

In the end, all will finally know,
For they will tell each other so.
You can hide it for a spell,
Sooner or later they will tell.

He took it to the grave for sure,
But the secret could not endure.
Papa played it all he could,
But now the truth is understood.

He had convinced each and everyone,
And he meant it, it wasn’t just for fun.
At his funeral when we compared our notes,
With the best of intentions he got our goats.

Person after person stood up and testified,
With a smile on their face they said it as they cried.
It started with his sisters and then it was his brothers,
Followed by his nieces, nephews and so many others.

Even his grandchildren stood up and made their case,
And when his three boys spoke even they lost face.
All persuaded by what through time has stood the test,
That my dear sweet papa had loved them each the best!

August 17, 2002 (Happy Birthday Little Brother!)

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

There's no place like home...there's no place like home. Well even if it wasn't a dream, there's still no place like home.

Noah,
Bless you for keeping the home fires burning and thank you.

Magnus,
Yup it is. And he gave that to so many. Thanks.

Martie,
And thank you. It was his ability to love more than most.

Duncan,
I'm not much on a fantasy world. Gotta say I had loving, caring parents and I know what a wonderful gift that was and is. Thanks.

Lyra,
Dear friend...how lovely that you are here to greet me! And after all you are dealing with you find kind encouraging words for me. May you experience that same peace and love in your heart, home and life.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Larry,
it's good to have you back and there's no doubt in my mind for with each of my children it is the same - you are loved the best.

Ah Larry...so good to have you home, and such a charming read of your father.  Surely, a man for all seasons, he weathered time well, and no one had to go through a storm to see him wave one last time.

I have a feeling we are going to be graced by your pen, and loving memories.  I am looking forward to those days, and those readings.

Hugs, K

His secret was bigger than you think, because he really loved me best!!!
Kidding aside, I wish only warmest and gentlest hugs for you and your family, and know Papa will be missed. But it's a wonderful testament to his personality and uniqueness that everyone he interacted with knew they were very special. That is pure Love. Kacy

Though I do not know you, your poem has made me feel as though I do. It is a wonderful tribute to a man who not only gave love but, knew love as well. I hope that a million people get to read this because it is so valuable. What a difference a little wisdom can make. Bless your dad, he was the best!

Thank you!

If someone can give everyone that matters in his life so much love they're convinced he couldn't possibly love another more, he has truly given a great gift. *S* This is a beautiful tribute to a remarkable man, Larry. *S*

Seems your father was a smart man, he even figured out how to bring you all closer together even after death. What a wonderful way to celebrate his life instead of mourning his death. I'm sure he was smiling down, hand in hand with your daughter, through the entire thing. God bless you and your family at this most difficult time you've been through in the last several months.

Keth,
It is indeed the truth! But only a parent knows that. What a wonderful thing to be able to persuade our children of that as a fact. It is good to be back, thanks.

Karilea,
Thank you kind friend. You describe exactly what I experienced. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Sy,
He did that and more. But his greatest trait ultimately became his humility. Proof of God's ability to alter one's character. Thanks.

Kacy,
If only he had known you that would have been the truth. And thank you so much dear friend.

SimplyGold,
How nice to meet you. Such generous words. Thank you so much for your encouragement. Your words mean so much to me. Thanks.

Chris,
We owe so much to our fathers. I hope my poem made you feel better. Thank you so much. Peace to you.

suthern,
You are so right. How blessed I am that the man was my papa! A real gift indeed.

Kellie,
Thanks. Hope all is well!

Sue,
Thanks so much. And by the way I have his pictures online.

Ruth,
Thank you so much for such wonderful thoughts. There are other gifts that he gave as well.

Sue,
Thank you. It is good to be back. And I am doing well. Primarily for the blessings that I have. An explanation: my dad was a very hyperactive man. He couldn't sit still for ten minutes. Dying as he did spared him the experience of a gradual decline and dependence. He had already acquired humility and therefore had no need of learning that through disability. He died with his boots on and that's the way he wanted it and the way it should be. I couldn't ask for more.

Sandra,
Kind friend, thank you. That he was in more ways than one!

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

I have hesitated commenting as my heart was so full of pain for you Larry but I see that your faith and love for your Father has made a path to acceptance for you.  I still remember you telling me on the phone you were going on that motorcycle ride with him and even then I wondered how old he was, and admired him so much for spending "quality time" with a son who needed it.  He must have been a very special man as I see qualities in you that must of course be genetic and you too are special.  I am so glad he had his boots on, as I too am so hyperactive (ask Nan) and I am going to go that way too, I have put in my order.  God bless you, him, and your entire family.  And to a parent - we love each one the same and the best

The most valuable thing you own is a smile, wear it, and share it.

Sharon,
I am so pleased you responded. If a longer life for Papa meant in anyway a declining health and dependent care or disability then his death is far better. I will always miss him but live with tremendous satisfaction in what he gave to all he knew and especially to me as his eldest child. And that motorcycle ride is indeed an incredible memory. The last time we did that he drove his own!

Donna,
Aw you are so good to me. Thank you for everything. Yes I chose my parents well!

Marti,
Thank you ever so much. It does feel good to be missed and even better to be back.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.
