Listening to every heart

Drought

Perhaps,
where you exist,
waves slap sandy shores,
or waterfalls trickle with sounds’ fulfill,
fog streams beneath your wings
and mist is but
stuff of dreams…

Here, dust prevails,
tender becomes brittle
tinder twisted,
where gasps are heard
in footsteps’ gust
all is parched,
seemingly bust…

crops never come
to full born fruit,
animals bite on dirt
and weed,
birds save song
entreaties concede

Perhaps, through prayer,
or mercy’s seed,
an end to drought
by raindrops’ bleed,
if perchance,
rain should slake
let my face
be then graced
by sweet awake

Into a beam of shine
sans sun
to stand in rain
to feel reborn
absorbing life from
misty rain

And let me not
feel drought
again.

(big hugggssssss) Oh Karilea, I know just how you feel, for here we are having the worst drought in over half a century! I summon a rain dance for you to chase away this dust bowl, sweet friend, hocus pocus! (plays pan flutes) (sigh) I hope it works, this is heartfelt and well-expressed, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Karilea, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

The great dust bowl....and we think we have
endured tough times...surely not compared to
those our parents and their parents endured
through the drought,  the depression, two
great wars....  also symbolic of the lack
of tenderness received....for this drought
can be as felt as the grit itself...grinding
away at one's heart....

Beautiful poem KJ,  and an awesome pic to
go with it...

Amazing how you can turn almost anything it seems into a beautiful description.I admire your ability to dissect any topic into its various aspects.

Fantastic write and pic Karilea.
Seems many parts of North America
are having terrible drought conditions this summer.
In need of a small rain dance...perhaps?

Well you sure made me thankful for my lot in life today.  That looks horrible! Your writing has actually made me thirsty

I have the ocean and salt marshes here, but we're also experiencing a drought.  The little rain we have been getting is usually that of a thunderstorm, but I do so love storms.   And I also love the imagery in this piece, makes me want a glass of water. LOL

Karilea--I thought I had replied to this..it effected me so greatly when I read it.   I guess I got a little of that dust in my brain. Well done!
