Public Lavatory Sonnet

(name changed for this posting in order to accomodate the pathetically faint of heart...)

As now you scan this product of my mind,
You seek relief from your anxiety;
Yet, there is no relief that you can find
As you scan words from this society;
The troubled minds of half a nation scar
The walls about you in a base display;
Crude markings from the foul mind near and far
Encompass you in putrefied array;
And, even tribal markings basely claim
Some ownership of this quaint place of rest
Amid the weakling notes that vainly blame
Their fellows for the sorrows in their breast;
    The horror of our state is manifest
    In these grim markings from souls ill-possessed.

Oddly enough I can relate to this. I travelled for a year with my husband on the road in a truck and I can't tell you the things I've read scribbled in contemplation on a wall. Contemplation of what I'm not sure. But you captured this strange behavior of the human animal quite well in this poem.
