I'm so much unfinished patchwork
too many loose threads
that start with me but never end
Just when I think I've unraveled this mess
I find another knot
so tightly wound sometimes
I can't tell which string is which

So tempting to cut the ties that bind
I'm being pulled too many directions at once
so tightly wound that I'm losing feeling
There used to be a pattern here
now I'm so many jumbled threads
I could cut them all away
but would there be enough heart strings left

to start over?

can relate to this feeling of termoil and confusion from my past...so I can tell you that it is possible to unravel...at least I did.  You described this feeling so well...took me back to that time.  I wish you the best!

Martie is right. It's best to unravel, though it's hard to do. It's not a good idea to start cutting. We are the tapestry of the woven threads. We need them whole.

In truth, what defines us is our poetry.

Noah,
Thank you for your always kind words. I like what you said about finding a true love to play my heartstrings like a lute. The mushy romantic in me is still hopeful (lol)

Sunshine, Seymour, Marge,
Thank you very much for reading; glad you enjoyed. (epsecially since "free style" is not my forte' )

Martie,
I'm touched that you understand how I am feeling; "turmoil and confusion" says it perfectly. I'm trying to "unravel" myself; it's just difficult to face up to the mistakes I have made in the past.

White Rose,
"we are a tapestry of woven threads" - I like that! Beautiful image! I don't want to "cut threads"'; I just get so tired, depressed or scared that I sometimes wonder if it wouldn't be best for me to just close myself off from everyone and everything and start over. Sad thoughts but I can't help them.
             Thanks for reading
                        - Jeff
