Counted on both hands
used to sieve sands
guide threads through needle eyes
point to the accused for juries to fry.

born with needs to put them in the mouth
raised to hitch for rides directed south
used to groom your cousin's hair from pesty lice
equipped to grasp another hand so you feel nice

armed with nails that were claws they say
arranged to hold together as you knelt and prayed
shaped to personality of it's owner
short and thick for the pragmatist.
long and thin for the romanticist

as we move from the tiny for the newborn size
to the arthritic model
covered in a glove disguise....
much can be said of these digits and their bases
as much has been said of their owners and faces
with nails kept short for organized souls
or grown long for the careless and rebellious
used to seive sands
counted on both hands.

You say this so very well, Martin...
I guess ours are now arthritic size...

I enjoyed this piece very much...

very nice, "e"...

I like the way you wed the idea of fingers to deeds being an extension of ourselves.

rather profound, and the flow made it go down like honey.

This was marvelous,
one of your better appendages...
certainly, nothing we would want to do without,
even when the arthritis comes...
for they can still be held,
and still touch,
showing
care...

Thank you Martin!

(smiles) Oh Martin, this is very well said, I have never gotten to study so much about the anatomy or medical science or along that field but your words always seem to teach me new things and that is why I love to read you! (sigh) This is very fascinating indeed, I love it, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Martin, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!
