Here I am
What are the right words?
I can’t say exactly...

What am I doing?
Where am I headed with this?
Can I convey my feelings of this moment?
Will they understand how this
affects and touches me?

It was just another program
Or,  so I thought until…
Until I watched the struggles of life
In a Children’s hospital.

Tiny limbs,  fingers, toes,
Heartbreaking cries of pain and loneliness
The starkness of a foreign room
Brightness of lights

Yet,  there before me I saw something.
Something very special.
It touched me.
Still does.

I saw love,  courage,  commitment
I saw tears,  sadness,  fear,  pain,  loneliness.

I saw my cousin’s child dying…

He was only nine when his last breath was
let as he lay in his mother’s arms.
He lived for nine wonderful years before…
he left us.

I read each day for weeks about him as
Emails came,  and tears flowed freely.
As a bond was developed with a child
Through words of a mother.

I never knew his face, or their faces until…
They told his story….
And as I watched  his struggles,  his pain
A part of me died with him…
As I cried with them….

Wednesday Night on ABC….there was a special called ICU….about a children’s hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas.   One segment of the program was of my cousin’s son,  who had a bad heart…received a
transplant and died weeks later from Pancreatitis  (may be spelled wrong)   ….   It was very
touching….I met him for the first time,  via that program.   I had never seen his face.

His name was Sawyer Evans…..He was nine years old….He was just a little boy….

I dedicated a poem to him,  gave it to his mother yesterday.   I also dedicate this poem to him as well.
My 6000th post at Passions.  Pray for the children….

Barry, I had forgotten that program started Wednesday night.
I too wanted to tune into it.
It's so sad to see a hurt, sick or dying child.
This must have been a difficult write for you, and I commend you.
Congrats on your 6000th post my friend.

It is always so hard to accept that Life doesn't seem to understand time the way we do.  We measure it in days, weeks, and years.  Life measures Itself in what we do with it, whatever our given circumstances, and regardless of time alotted,  and how we affect others.  Short or long (in our terms), Life is, and will always Be.

May God bless and comfort you and your family in your sorrow.

Congratulations on your 6000th post - a beautiful memorial for your nephew.

Barry

You have touched the place of remember for me with this...only nine...so young to die, and brave to be only a child.

Congratulations, dear man, for this heart touch and for your poetry and thoughtful replies.  So glad that you are part of this family!!

Barry - this is so very touching to me, and beautifully written. I can see how this incident would affect someone. I lost my younger sister Marie when she was only four...

Magnus darling heart this is so incredibly touching and such a perfect way to mark your landmark post. I knew 6000 was fast approaching and to this I very nearly missed it. I haven’t been around very much the last week of so, you probably wouldn’t have notices since I’m normally so quiet. Yes I know I lied, but you might not have noticed I wasn’t around quite so much Be that as it may, this is simply stunningly well written, perfect flow and the power and the feelings are exceptional. YOU did Sawyer, his mum and yourself proud darling heart because this is truly one of your utter best. Well done and congratulations on 6000, each and every one an absolute diamond

Barry this does indeed touch me.  It reminds me of a special I saw of doctors dedicating their time to go to Ecuador to help the children.  Thank you for sharing this lovely tribute with us, and reminding all of how the children mean so very much.
May God comfort you and yours, and congrads
on your accomplishment.
