Yon whistling wind of summer’s day
A gypsy hearkened distant beck
Familiar chant resounds indeed
To call’s travail she must pay heed
With visions of her yearly trek
MissGypsiNess was on her way

On board from Boston whisked away
Train to Chicago by next day
And so began her westbound trek
With wanderlust her summer’s beck
All in her track pay rightly heed
Beware of impish gypsy deed

From Chi-town northerly her deed
Kazoo and on to Colon’s way
Where wizardry made magic heed
Her mission to GearUp each day
Till chipmunks chattered farewell beck
Embarked then on her westward trek

Two nights on rail she kept on trek
To follow wanderlust her deed
Crossed Rockies to Pacific beck
Then headed on northwestern way
Debarking for a fortnight’s day
A caution all Canucks should heed

In concert led by Lauper’s heed
To “Girls just having fun” last trek
As Cher sang songs of yesterday
“I’ve Got You, Babe” her grandest deed
The timeless queen of Gypsy’s way
“I’m done, so follow THIS!” her beck

Responding to MissGypsi’s beck
Mysteria showed her the way
Cross mountainside she must take heed
Vancouver’s hills and dales to trek
A truly staunch and sprightly deed
More’s yet to come than told this day

Adventure as her beck, the calling to her trek
She’ll pay eternal heed to meet her quest indeed
To forge her gypsy way through ever and a day

I love the pictures, and the verse. Sestina is one form of verse I still haven't worked up the courage to try....

Impressive poem, wistful images, and a truly delightful story.

The only possible disappointment is that the annual pilgrimage is now half complete and we have only two Chronicles this year?  Sounds to me like you're having WAY too much fun and haven't found nearly enough time to write.

Thank you all, for your wonderfully kind comments... I'm off this morning on the next venture - back through customs - Good thing I don't have Kit with me..

Only two Chronicles?  Hm... How does a gypsy find time to write while mountain climbing?  Too much fun?  Maybe I can do another excerpt while I'm on the train - If I'm awake!!..

Ahem...well a Gypsy who is going down the yellow brick "track" definitely could get into some mischief when she meets up with a wizard, couldn't she? Look out Oz here she comes.

Oh dear, I'm so sad Nan's gone away,
already I'm feeling lonely today.
She hopped a bus to catch a train,
eastward bound to test a Wizard's brain.

When she gets there we will see,
if she learned some little tricks from me.
There is more to winning a game you play,
I'll explain to you all if I may.

Playing good Scrabble takes a real knack,
I said, "Girl sharpen your skills while on that track."
She'll not let the Wizard beat once more,
she's going back there way smarter than before.

I taught her good at being a femme fatale,
so she better win but time will tell.
There's more to Scrabble than being smart,
to beat a man I said, "Be ditsy from the start!

Just kidding...Oh, I loved having her here, we had so much fun that life is going to be mighty boring for a long time without her.  Besides she does dishes!

Missing you Nan, have fun!

Next time it's a "Girl's Just Wanna Have Fun Event!"
Ah, what the heck we can let Balladeer in I guess if he behaves.

I pass this way but once and hope I meet you.

Sharon

Nan ... what an absolutely wonderful journey ... you've chronicled this beautifully. The pictures are excellent, and the visions you captured with your words are superb!

Oh, how I wish, I wish, I wish I could have been climbing the mountains with you both, and watching Cher along side you ... sigh ... what a grand adventure Ms. Gypsyness!

I LOVE the pic of you and Sharon ... just fabulous!

(and rofl at crossing customs without me ... lololol ... at least you won't get strip searched! )

Can't wait to visit with you next next week!

Best wishes and big hugs,
/Kit
