She Knows

The crying jags hit in the middle of the workday,
when Marla from Purchasing tilted her head,
gazed at you, understanding;
she walked the halls a while with you;
told of how she lost her daughter
late last summer,
when a drunk driver
slammed into Carla’s body
in a pedestrian crossing,
then fled;
struck her with such force
her skull cracked
and brain matter leaked out.

She knows;
she’s got a permanent restraining order
out on her EX, a reputed drug dealer,
he was responsible for their daughter
when the accident happened.
Incredibly, he still has visitation rights
with their boy, Steven.

She hugged you then, took you into her office
and handed you a box of tissue,
you cried even harder when she told you
she’s remarried now to a nice guy named Ron,
but the EX can’t stand that -
he threatens her life habitually.

She said when she sees pictures
of other people’s smiling daughters
on walls or propped on desks,
she gets a sudden stab in her heart –
then she asked you,

so, what’s wrong?

I know this woman...
I often find her in the blue halls...
sometimes I see her sitting beside me...

sometimes

I just see her in the mirror...

how kind of you to bring her here, Corinne...
and how well you showed her finest points...

Hi Martie, It's amazing how some people can just know when you're sad or depressed
before you know it yourself. Thanks!

Sunshine,

You are so welcome. Our troubles can seem so overwhelming until we happen upon someone who's problems are so much greater. It's all relative, though, your right. I don't want to see "her" in my mirror - lordy, lordy, admit to a weakness, moi???

Smiling (not really, though),

Corinne

When your day is too long
and nothing goes just right.
Just smile and remain strong,
look to the brightest light.

For there are days when ten
is the highest on scale
But really now,  not then
a three instead will sell.

Hold your head high and say
I know it could be worse
I am here, loved this day
and for this, I'll not curse.

Hugs to you Cor....
