Days runs by on stealthy feet,
lest you take notice,
the passing of your years.

Sun drowns each day
on ebbing tide,
lost to sea.
Again, again
and again,
Iíve seen it throw scarlet fire
upon the dark waters.

Often in breathless wonder
I sit listening,
watching faint star shadows,
the faint shadow of my own
existence.

Iíve walked the sands,
heard the forlorn cries
of seabirds,
eternal pounding of  surf,
felt the onshore breeze
and drying brine upon my skin.
It is the man I am.

Sometimes memories will cry,
but I weep not.
Sometimes crippled thoughts
will find their way to written page.
Pain will sometimes grind its teeth
and I will scream in rage.

But I  will not cower.
For I have yet to count the stars,
drink in enough salt air
to make me dizzy,
to catch a seagull
and listen to its voice.

I am the man that walked the shores
within your time.
On calloused feet,
with pen in hand,
I will spend my days in painting
and in rhyme.

Michael, as an ocean lover, this is especially beautiful to me. One of your finest writes, I think.
