the grasshopper is stretching his imagination
playing memory games and releasing smoky chains
speaking in baloney whispers to young light green blades,
telling stories of how the world has now gone astray

the newspaper holds folded faces of presidents
each telling a story of his people’s might and right
and desperately pleading his followers to fight
for there lies an impending doom of a foreign force
the tv paints pictures of good preachers who want to
Keep lunatics in control. Teach them God. Make them sane.

well, presidents and preachers do make for good stories
even for stretching grasshoppers like you and me
both of us know ‘Peace sells but there’s no one buying’
and when ratings go down, they rely on War and Sex
both of us know that these three letter words are on sale
and in world today, the trade is hotter than ever!

now I shudder at the thought that the dam has broken
and that there is no space on the hill for both of us
I believe that the clouds have burst a roar in my ear
as I have ignored your pleas of restraint and silence

but my mind questions everything under the sun
and Pink Floyd says that “the sun is eclipsed by the moon”

Ah Sudhir, my friend,
the grasshopper is the student,
and the student
hopefully
is learning well...

Marvelous...you have not lost your touch...
if anything,
it has improved...

Sudhir,
I knew it would be good to come and read what accompanied this title, yet, I had no idea I would find the power and the truth and the agony of heart that I found herein. This should be on every editorial page in the world. It should be in every sociology and psychology class, it should be on the tips of the tongues of those who decide on those three letter words.

May I share this piece with friends? May I see if my local newspaper would like to print it? There is a once-a-week and a daily paper in my town. I would, of course, want to include your name and home country.

Please e-mail me your answer, I would really appreciate whichever answer you give. In the subject area, either place your name or the poem's title.

I love your thoughts, Sudhir. It reminds me Big Two-Hearted River Part II by Ernest Hemingway, where a boy back from war goes fishing. The place is haunted and quiet, and all the grasshoppers he finds are black from a fire. Amazing story. Amazing poem.

(big hugggssssss) Oh Sudhir, I know just what you mean, we are all like grasshoppers metaphorically speaking, being suffocated in this glass jar of violence and sexuality and the mushroom cloud of smoke blocks us all from the sun which we need to rise and find harmony among each other! (sad sigh) My heart goes out to all the world as I join you in your sentiments, sweet friend, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sudhir, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Thank you all so very much.... Reading this poem again, makes me think what made me write it... but I guess I wrote what came to my mind... and I am very glad that you all think it was good...

You all are terrific and endlessly kind... Thanks for letting me write my thoughts...

Regards,
Sudhir
