~Butterfly~

Free of your earthly body now...
you fly
free of your suffering
free of your pain
recalling your life
you lived
not in vain

the many lives you touched
those who still love you so much
you can see us all now
as you fly above

and we still feel your kindness
your gentleness
and your love

though you are apart from us
you will always be part of us

high above, you soar
on speckled wings
no burden now
of earthly things

heavenly knowledge
bequeathed to you
from this ethereal
lofty view

from here...
high above
at last you can see
the future that once was
but now, will never be

your beautiful spirit
has finally been set free
~

When you told me the story behind these words, I had goosebumps and now reading this and seeing the graphic brings tears to my eyes.

You are one very strong lady and you will get through this latest chapter and emerge victorious. Thinking of you,
Hugs, Marti

Madame Chipmunk,

I'm at work now and decided to sneak a peak at your writing. Glad I did. You captured the experience as if you were there. A butterfly in disguise. I pretended to set my spirit free.

Thy coolness and they balm
Let sense be dumb let flesh retire

Thanks so much, Nan...
You are right...butterflies are free...
and they also symbolize the passing from this life into the next.

Thank you so much, Bill.  The reason that this butterfly means so much to me is that when my first husband was dying, he said that he would send me a sign that he was okay somewhere, after he died.
At his burial...just as the coffin was being lowered into the grave, a big beautiful Tiger Swallowtail butterfly which looked exactly like the one in the picture...flew up out of the grave (butterflies don't ever go underground), it flew right between his sister and me...and it brushed my cheek as it flew past.  I believe that this was the sign from him.  He has since sent me other unmistakable signs that he is watching over me.

Thanks so much for that amazing compliment, Marsha...
I think I have posted and re-posted this poem about 5 times and it always seems to be enjoyed.  Probably because it is about a real incident and it was written with love.
This is one of the first poems I wrote after my first husband died....and I hadn't written in several years.
