Waves crash upon a rocky shore
as a rainbow arches and dies.
Gulls swarming , circling overhead
in wait of a tasty surprise.

Sand between the toes of a trek
alone in thought, in time and space.
Lost to the memory of one,
sharing a hand,a smiling face.

Walking now alone, once as two.
Conversation lost to the breeze
flowing endlessly through marsh reeds
as tidal pools pour to the seas.

Can the shattering heart again
mend to feel a lover’s return?
Can the walk of one be of two
as waves rise to the foamy churn?

Smell the sea in all it’s wonder
from the brine of the watery deep.
Born to walk and not to plunder
in search of a mermaid to keep.

I truly hope one day your mermaid will come. What a lovely poem this is.

Ah Barry, not sure which I would rather be,a medievel maid or a mermaid. You make them both sound wonderful.

The shore, a place I know so well.
Can be a lonely walk, or simply a walk of oneness.  I prefer the latter.
Well done. ThisDiamond

Yes, the lonely shore, at once a wonderous and terrible place.
