Unseen cicada eat the
silence in small bites.

Night's shadows congregate
like street gangs stealthing

on Air Jordans, swelling in
numbers, edging out a pasty day.

Sidewalks, streets, buildings, vehicles
regurgitate endless heat of a day retreated,

a day defeated in an
empty stomach kind of way.

A life saunters furtive, not so much
savoring as slowing down this Sunday

evening's heartbeat, a Sunday
steeped in darker blues.

Looking for a crowd to get lost in
the loner's an active observer

seeking and holding at different
lengths the gaze of all.

A well tattooed one legged man
wears shorts revealing his

erector set replacement, his limp
aggressive in a pirate peg leg way.

Bold and buxom the black girl, a
necklace tattoo enslaves her,

she admits to brushing her breasts
against me quite on purpose.

Tonight's star, Big Walter somebody
or another, a local blues legend

celebrating his 88th birthday, hammering
the 88's to the delight of all, then holds

court shirt festooned with pinned on money,
life's twilight payoff for being;

blacker than ancient wood in Texas
long before air conditioning,

hair whiter than cotton
eyes wizened to the soul.

The loner sways to the music
somber grimace forgets to pain

in the commerce of the blues
and in the transaction

the change is a smile for all.

Every word so well chosen and perfectly placed.
Perhaps that is what draws me in...
Or is it the vivid imagery,
painting such well defined pictures in my mind.
Your writing is unique...your talent beyond compare.
Much enjoyed by this reader, poet sir.

BRAVO!!! Wow, oh my gosh, your writing is always so incredible, I envisioned this man and his introspective thoughts as he danced in the blue light of the music, sweet friend, this is excellent, your words are superb, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Richard thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

You drew me in with cicadas..which happen to be the most droning loner noise to me..then the blues character. You painted him delightfully well in my mind and yes..I did smile..thank you.

Sincerely,
Reg
