In the land of castles and dragons
In the days of yore and before
When all of the gents and their ladies
traveled by coach, from shore to shore...

The going was rough and relentless
and ne'er a good road for the course
Your comfort was always dependent
on the steadfast reliable horse!

In daylight the coachmen were given
the task of providing the beasts
who would take you to your destination
for a premium fee, at the least...

All the gentry and their well-off ladies
who traveled, did so in daylight
to assure that their ride would be smoother
than a trip taken in dark of night...

For at night, when the poorer folk traveled
even though they paid much for their fee
The coachmen would substitute horses
shall we say 'of a lesser degree'...

The darkness belied their afflictions
The ride was unbearably rough
Each bump shook the bones of the weary
One's endurance seemed never enough...

When you lay down to sleep, just remember
In your nocturnal journeys, beware
That the horse who will carry your dream coach
doesn't turn out to be a 'nightmare'!!

(And that is where the word 'nightmare' originated!!)

Open the door and let your adventure begin!!!

Thank you Sunshine! Well, I just happened to stumble across this little bit of info on a BBC broadcast one night, and I thought it was fascinating...just one of those words we take for granted, but never quite know the story behind.  Glad you liked the read!!

Thank you Noah! And one is never too young or too old to learn anything, as this particular granny will tell you!!  Always keep your mind open....

Open the door and let your adventure begin!!!

Thank you Martie!  I've always had a curiosity towards the origin of the English language...(and now I live in the place where it originated!) So, I couldn't resist this one!

Open the door and let your adventure begin!!!

But its what you did with it that is so fabulous, you know I love this utterly utterly darling heart, it is truly divine.

Beautifully written and perfectly presented well done darling girl well done indeed

Those who read Piers Anthony will tell you about "Day mares" which bring day dreams.

Ah yes....and I would much rather deal with day mares, I think!!!  Thank you, Paladin!

RSWells...be just as careful in the day, as these mares are stabled in our subconscious!
Thank you also...
