They Never Knew

He watched her and each passing day;
He memorized her walk, her sway
And how her face was framed in wisps
Of golden hair and how her lips
Were like the petals of a rose
On sunlit morn ‘neath dews repose.
He watched her and each passing day;
He sighed and turned, then walked away.
~
She watched him and each passing week;
She noticed dimples on his cheeks
And how his eyes, in office light,
Reminded her of clouds at night.
She glimpsed the strength of his two hands
And noted lack of wedding band.
She watched him and each passing week;
She dreamed, but never did she speak.
~
They watched each other through the years.
They noted joy. They saw the tears.
They passed each other in the hall,
But never really talked at all.
They loved each other from afar;
Too scared to hope or wish on stars.
They never really took the chance
And in life’s crazy circumstance...

They watched each other through the years,
Though never met, due to their fears.
So as life goes, they aged, they died
And then were buried... side by side.

(tears fall down my cheeks) Oh Ruth, I have missed you and your wonderful words soooooo much, this is a powerful comeback that is filled with so much sadness! (big hugggssssass) I know how it must feel to always want to confess to the one you love but the fear pushes you back only to regret it later on, sweet friend, if I faced that opportunity, I would just declare it from the bottom of my heart otherwise I would feel depressed missing that chance, and while someone might reject your desires, at least you knew how they felt! (sigh) This is a sad but beautiful poem, sweet friend, I am so happy you're back, you are a special friend to me and everyone here, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Ruth, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

hoot,
Here I was, just cruising along when I happened on this. It's a wonderful telling of a rather sad subject which I'm sure has been repeated way too many times. In writing this, you may have prevented one more repetition of this sad mistake. For that ( and your poetic expertise ) I applaude you.

Hoot...I found it.  I knew I would.  It will stay towards the top, for its truth, its beauty, and its underlying sadness...

Would that all find their one true love...

It sounds like they just let life happen to them, Ruth...
An interesting perspective, so very well written.

Though it had a sad ending, it seems they shared a lovely bond of sorts.
Enjoyed!
