Past the Time of Bare Shoulders

The shadow weaves a leaf
on the cement of my eye where light sleeps.

Creep, creep the mellow morning.

Relieve this ache slowly,  too heavy
is my dream.

First release
this rumple of unfolding that quilts my skin
past the time of bare shoulders.

In the opening dawn,
comfortable cotton falling with damp
begins to wing,  its flutter heard
along the bottom of the garden
where in spider’s hold,  a piece of art awaits
a trick of light.

Slowly now, but don’t take too long,
for time leaks pieces of glass,
and I have already seen my pale face
hush within the light
of middays come too soon.

Every time I read you,
I feel as if your chest of drawers
would be familiar to my touch
cotton shifts
trails of lace...
and perfume bottles from yesterday
leaving behind their hints
of tomorrows...
yes, I feel I know you
this well...

Martie,

From time to time, I found my self digging deep for the right words
to express my feeling about one's piece.
And this is one of those times.

I read this over and over, and loved it more each time.

You have a fine way with words ....
I am putting this one in my library!
Absolutely perfect!

(smiles) Awwwwwwww, this is sooooooo beautiful, sweet friend, I always love the gorgeous whimsical feel of your poems, this had me imagining cotton fields and dancing in them in the sunshine and rolling on the glens! May love and light always shine upon you!

Your poetry is like a down comforter on a winters morn...like sleeping late on a long Sunday curled around the one who contents us,
like napping on crisp cool linen sheets on a summers day... like a warm spring breeze coming in thru lace curtains, like sunshine on bare skin, like walking barefoot in rain.
I could go on and still not touch the way your words fill and thrill me.

So,  this is how it is when one gets up in
the morning....as the sun rises and paints
the world in all of it's color....

I hope I can feel this in the morning...

Waxing poetic, this was an incredible writing, Martie!
Hooray for the thinking poem
and 3 cheers for the beautiful ponderer you are!

creep creep the mellow morning
and sleeping within the rumpled sheets
are wonderful metaphors for anticipation
and apprehension of things to come.

great stuff, Mart!

okay......so now you are taking the already heavenly images and metaphors to new heights.

for time leaks pieces of glass,

Such as the sands of time through the hourglass?

The shadow weaves a leaf
on the cement of my eye where light sleeps.

I would see this more as a blossom when it comes to your eyes.  You hold the essence of life divine within your thoughts and outlook on life.

Then of course ... the bare shoulders.  Don't go changing that on us too.  There is always warmth found in the comfort of loving arms for one such as yourself so no need for sweaters take the place of friends and loved ones there.

You know I love it and of course I can't say anything new about your poetry that I haven't already said a hundred times or more, but I think you know where you sit with me.......(((HUGS))) to one that will never have to ask.
