Nazaré, Portugal

An oil painting faces Mother’s bed—
ocean, shoreline and sailboats.
Tones of silver, ochre and cerulean
suggest a Mediterranean clime.

The artwork moves with her
from house to house,
placed where morning sun
illuminates a backdrop
of sky and horizon;
dusk accentuates
the sea’s depth
and shadowy sails.

In the foreground,
windblown swells
appear to roll
away from the beach.
Because of this,
I used to believe
waves crashed
backwards
on the other side
of the world.

You don't realize the memories
you bring to so many of us...
thank you for the special one
you just recalled for me!

Corinne...this is such a very sweet and lovely memory poem, and it brings back some lovely memories for me also.
My late mother in law was an artist and she painted one which sounds like the one in your poem...
thanks for the memories.

(smiles) Oh Corinne, this is wonderful, sweet friend, I too love artwork so so much and when I was a little boy sometimes things appeared like optical illusions to me and now I look back on all of that suprised by conclusive results! (kiss on cheek) This is wonderful, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Corinne, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

A touching, graceful piece, Corrine.

I'm with SunShine, love to see you memories...

Corinne

I can imagine the number of times moved, to different house, new city perhaps, this one thing remained stable...and gave more inportance to the beauty it already posessed.  Loved the backwards waves.

this is a portrait within a portrait...
the one you painted for us with gifted penstroke, and the one hung on your memory's wall.
