He said that you were evil.
I patted head of damaged child.
I did not believe him.
I heard the plaint of a schoolchild.

He said that you abandoned him.
I did not believe.
He told me tales of mother's drug
that I could not conceive.

He might have said, "anathema"--
had he known the word.
He might have said alot of things
if only "mommy" heard.

I see a boy, with phonograph,
paid to go away...
in this man who swings at me--
pack of punch of childhood rage.

I hear him weep, in sleep at night--
I listen in the dark.
His feet in fight of thrash of sheet--
he always tears the bed apart--

I cannot go to comfort him.
(He wakes and sees a foe.)
I cannot do a g'damned thing.
So I just sit here, blowing smoke.

wow Serenity, this is poignant and powerful.
There is also that sense of hopelessness in not being able to help.  Not being able to help sometimes hurts very much.  Loved this one sweetie.

Enjoy life, this is NOT a dress rehearsal.

there is a line in an Alanis M. song--"my tortured beacon"

you have no idea how timely this is for me ...how many times we are in sync never ceases to amaze me. I woke up with this pain today, and here you are putting it into words that I wont have.

I've sold my soul to heal wounds of someone else...I've lost myself in the process of trying to give a loved one back the innocence
that was taken from the child. Its my own personal moth hell that I cant give that back... accepting that no one can give that back, has been my undoing.
love you for this one me twin...

Dang.
What JM said...
and then some.
Don't you just hate
blowing smoke?
It's almost as bad
as killing time...

serenity,
Well polished and thought provoking, as always. I wish you rid of this burden if it is yours, and if not, many more writes as these, to help others be rid of theirs'.
Doc
P.S.
Almost didn't recognize you due to the name change. I've been considering changing mine to just plain "Doc", what do you think?
