The Tower of My Strength
By Larry Chadwick
Tonight my father lays dying knowing…

A man of deep emotion,
Softened through the years.
Tender heart to a fault,
Not ashamed of gentle tears.

Love beyond all measure,
Enough for each dear son.
Persuaded each as his favorite,
To believe they were number one.

Faults that were not hidden,
Shame that was confessed.
Honesty when it hurt,
The source of being blessed.

Errors that weren’t denied,
Weaknesses personally owned.
Traits that merit honor,
Efforts that should be cloned.

A life that I can emulate,
For growth that it reveals.
Then again my dad has always known,
How each of his boys feels.

July 30, 2002

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

(BIG HUGGGSSSSSS) God Bless You, sweet friend, I know he loves you and all his and your family so much and always will and I know if you could build a stairway you would hug him but know he will always be hugging your heart with his light and love and will never let you go! (sigh) God Bless You, dearest friend, you are in my thoughts tonight, we all love you so much!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Dearest Larry...
This is such a fine tribute to a man, who sounds from your description....to be so much like you.
Its clear, through this poem, where your strength and love comes from.
Your dad seems like an honorable and loveable man...just like you, Larry...
~ my prayers and hugs will be with you throughout this ordeal

Beautifully expressed Larry. I know that your love for your Dad will get you through this, and know that he is going to be reunited with Ginger when he passes.
So so sorry.

Larry, this is wonderful.  My father also made each of his sons feel as if they were his favorite.  He also softened as the years passed and he and I became the best of friends.  You have my prayers and hopes, sir.

What a loving tribute to your father Larry. He’s obviously a man of great heart and great love. He sure seems to have taught that to his children. You do him proud Larry…not just with this poem, but with the man that you are. You are the legacy he leaves behind.
