~Turbulence~

The tornado sirens wail
their frightful lullaby
its two A.M. and outside
leafy twigs and branches fly

cannonades of rumbling thunder
lightning dazzles rippled streaks
sulphuric bolts from heaven
through haze of cloud mystiques

across the stormy stage of bleak
winds whistle grim alarms of fright
swirling their evil circle dance
in ready for howling tornadic flight

as turbulence reaches crescendo
angry torrents of rain
impassioned by raging gusts
pound against the window pane

as thunder fades to distant mumble
and windy bluster slows down
lightning forks still paint the sky
tornado sirens wail in a nearby town

performing her awe inspiring show
a tempest has come and gone tonight
in her violent wake, we still tremble
too edgy to sleep, our nerves strung tight
~

Morning Munkster!  Wowsers.....sounds like you
were caught in the eye of the rage and the fury
of an annoyed Nature episode.  Tornado Alley is
a corridor we never want to be caught in.  Your
powerful descriptions were capture-perfect stares
at the awesome display of nature at her worst.

You've captured the Eye of the Storm
very well indeed...
and I know what it's like,
thinking another is brewing
right around the corner...

Well done, Chipmunky-Lady...

Lyra,
Your poem was as delicious as a banana split
Must have gained at least a pound. Wonderful write.

Lyra

You caught the fearful excitement that twirls in air and heart during a storm such as this.  Wonderful writing!

Yikes, I wondered if you'd write about your experiences the other night. At dinner last night I was telling my hubby and daughter about your storm. Neither of them realized that Michigan can get tornadoes. Very frightening.
But great writing....Hugs, Marti

Now that would scare the bejeebers outta me too~

I do love this phrasing~

You paint a poetic picture of nature that
we all fear....Yet, thru your words,  it
is something bearable to at least think of,
if not endure...

Hurricane Hugo in '89 was quite enough for
me....

Dear Lyra
I have never see a tornado, "alone in a news-paper
and on the TV
The picture is very nice, but the force from a tornado is fright-full

Yes, I've seen a tornado and it is exactly as you portrayed it with your words. Very nicely done.

You have me trembling. My dogs hide under the bed. I only wish I could get under there with them! Beautifully descriptive and powerful. Way to close to home.
