I wasted a lifetime waiting for flowers
But vacant vases mocked the lonely hours
I watched as all color drained from my life
And I ached to be lover... to be wife.

Acceptance slipped in, though almost too late,
But if life alone is to be my fate
I'll buy myself flowers and fill every room
With glorious color and sweet perfume

And dance to music only I can hear
Lift a glass to myself, laugh at my fear.
No dress rehearsal: life gives just one chance
And I'll embrace it, with or sans romance.

Happiness gives our lives effervescence
But dreams can wither as champagne goes flat
Contentment may not be anyone’s goal
But it sure does look good from where I’m at.

In a quiet corner blooms a single rose...
It gladdens my day, sweetens my repose.

suthern,
if you were given a flower for everytime you made someone else's life better your life would be filled with roses, crysanthanems, lilies, forget-me-nots and daffodils.
Beautiful pensive words, but don't give in or up.

Suthern Hi there, your writing is excellent do you know that? You have the ability to write the thought so beautifully. This is simply perfect in its flow and style, and this perfect piece of wisdom is wonderful.

Do you have any idea how special and brilliant your writing is? Mum is never wrong she said that if I read your work I would understand how a writer of heart can be a writer of magic and I have, and now understand what she means. I know I’ll never be the calibre or writer you are but I can read and wish certainly. Like Margie girl I have faith in love, and you are dressed in its gown you truly are. Excellent writing I love it.

I can’t wait till September, I am so looking forward to meeting you you are one of the good ones I can tell

Love and warm stuff

I must say this explains a lot
Of all those strange quirks you have got.
When you came down to visit us
Your actions did cause quite a fuss!

First, it was all those flowers you bought!
I lost count but there were a lot!
Roses, daiseys, pansies too
And all flowers that came into view.

Then all that dancing on your own
Was really quite hard to condone!
No matter where we went with you
You did a waltz or bugaloo!

Champagne! I never saw you stop!
You didn't waste a single drop!
I think there oughta be a law
For drinking Cold Duck through a straw!

Now I see you were celebrating
Your life-long task as lady-in-waiting.
Well, you may go through life as one
But you sure have a lotta fun!!!

====================================

It is said by those "wise ones" that we so often quote, that--
Our life is not measured by how many we love, or are loved by, but by how much we love ourselves.
Buy yourself a florist Ruth...you are a rose in bloom..the growth and acceptance in this cadence kissed piece proves that.
Congrats on 7000 too
May I send you some pretty petals to say thanks for so many wonderful replies to my and many others work in here.
This poem is a perfect choice for your milestone post.

Take some small comfort in the knowledge that you aren't alone in your longing sentiment and greater comfort in your self acceptance. Good write.

Suthern darling heart YOU have to know this is exquisite writing darling, it really is exceptional. I know when I see your name it is going to be something special but this is more than that. Utterly utterly perfect writing I love it.

I’m trying to be brief, it’s not necessarily working but I am trying, and quiet in the back the voice who called out yes you are very So since I’m attempting brevity this is simply wonderful I love it utterly utterly utterly love it.

The wonder of your writing is it can be taken on so many levels, each as beautiful as the preceding one, each layer of thought full of truth and honesty. You are surrounded by flowers, the blooms of truth, of love and of friendship, you have more than enough, because you give enough. It is only those who perceive the gift of love as a gift, who understand the need to give and to receive that love who can know the answer and what is enough Do I love it you know I do, fabulous utterly utterly utterly love it.

So much for me being brief

Love and warm stuff

Breathe through the heat of our desire
Thy coolness and they balm
Let sense be dumb let flesh retire
Speak through the earthquake wind and fire

lady this is perfection, a keeper for sure...and yeppers, I agree, would rather replace real (bought and paid for) flowers every single day, than to dust off the fake ones.....if you know what I mean...

and rofg@balladeer, now I know why she didn't give me many details of her visit...she couldn't remember after all that champagne........rofg

Balladeer:

But the sight of beauty all over the place
Reminded me of my beloved’s face
So I filled my arms with what I could buy...
(For he’s just not that sort of guy. *G*)
And half of that dancing that I did
Was in a vain attempt to rid
My legs of bugs that kept on nipping...
(The other half was just me tripping.)
As for drinking... I finally quit -
Y’all stored the booze, put a lock on it!
But I did have fun; it was quite a treat
(Even my balancing the boat feat!)

One of the things that keeps me content
Is cherishing every moment with friends.
Thanks, Deer One! *S*

JM: Thank you very much for your kind response and the lovely pictures... and for the congrats. *S* All are greatly appreciated.

RSWells: I do. *S* And I thank you very much! *S*

Seymour: Thank you, dear friend... I’m glad you liked. *S*

Marsha: If you think I’m going to ask you for brevity when I’m doing some floating among the clouds from the kindness of your response, you’re very mistaken. *G* Thank you so much... I appreciate your response immensely! *S*

Martie: Thanks, but no thanks. *G* I was a horticulturist and know the work involved... I’ll take my flowers with less work, please! LOL Thank you so much, dear lady... *S*

jellybeans: Bite your tongue... I do so too remember the details!!! I just paid hefty bribes to keep them private! LOL Thank you, dear friend... so very much. *S*
