~Grandaughters~

Grandaughters are my just rewards
for raising sons who played with swords
who scuffed their shoes and ripped their shirts
while playing macho in the dirt

they give us all the things we missed
they fight with words and not with fist
eating plastic cookery fare
and styling flowing silken hair

grandaughters give us gentle thrills
of lacy dress and dainty frills
they come in every shape and size
a gift of love, grandma's surprise

shopping for those lacy clothes
dancing shoes with twinkle toes
ballet lessons, watch her twirl
her tutu skirt alive with swirl

dollhouse dreams
and fairy queens
tea party days
and flower bouquets

little girls I love to spoil
prima donna, princess royal
and when I kiss her on the face
she'll kiss me back with girlish grace

grandaughters are a special treat
they fill my life with loving sweet
~

Lyra - they are something special aren't they?  Our little granddaughter has a big brother and she can't talk yet so she fights with fists and teeth - this is just a wonderful poem and I loved it - Paul

Thanks so much, Marie...
but lately, I haven't been able to see too much of them because my immune system hasn't recovered from all of my treatments yet and kids are little germ magnets.
I took Dasha...my oldest one, to her ballet recital and came down with a cold which turned into pneumonia, so now I am being more careful for a while.

Thanks so much Paul....
My grandaughters aren't really above fighting with their fists either, but they do it a bit differently than my sons did...
they're sneakier.

Thanks so much, Martie...
I always wanted a little girl and never had one when I was younger and now I have been blessed with 2 daughters in law, an ex-daughter in law with whom I am still close, a stepdaughter and 3 lovely grandaughters...
Isn't it amazing how things change.
I guess I got my wish afterall....in spades!

Lyra,
I would NEVER be jealous! Wow how blessed. And an awesome write. Got me right in the heart.

Well look at you!  Your very  own icon LOL, and look at those sweet girls, oh I want to meet them up front and personal.  I too know the Gramma "thing", and I can't get enough of mine either.  I can't wait for the tutu stage, you are lucky as you have so many!  Wow ~ such cute chippermunks too (take after you).  Cute, cute poem and adorable girls. Whoo hooo, she arrives tomorrow and it's party time!

Nothing means more to me than faith,
family and my friends.

With one daughter and two ruff and tumble football playing sons, I sure can relate to this. No grandchildren yet, not even a son or daughters-in-law, but maybe one day we will have those cutie patootie grandbabies.
Hugs, Marti
