Come Down

Come Down

Come down from your rainbow
Come down from on high
Your life wasn’t built in the
Blue of the sky

You have not the wings to
Sustain feathered flight
Nor hands that could pluck
Little stars from the night

Come down to the wet of
The earth and the dew
For the shadow of sorrow
Is following you

The clouds are too high
For the scent of a rose
Or the coolness of streams
Where the watercress grows

Come down from the skies
And walk into the mist
For at dawn heavy eyes
Will be tenderly kissed

By fern of the woodland
By breeze of the morn
By the dark glazing eyes
Of a brown dappled fawn

If this is the promise
to come down to the mist
I shall hurry, surely
for this bless I won't miss
