~Butterfly~

Free of your earthly body now...
you fly
free of your suffering
free of your pain
recalling your life
you lived
not in vain

the many lives you touched
those who still love your so much
you can see us all now
as you fly above

and we still feel your kindness
your gentleness
and your love

though you are apart from us
you will always be part of us

high above you soar
on speckled wings
no burden now
of earthly things

heavenly knowledge
bequethed to you
from this ethereal
lofty view

from here...
high above
at last you can see
the future that once was
but now, will never be

your beautiful spirit
has finally been set free
~

You are indeed a very kind and wonderful lady, dear Lyra... Monty was no doubt just as special, and is smiling upon you as you remember him so lovingly...

though you are apart from us
you will always be part of us

=============================

those words sum up so beautifully the lingering touch of the traces left behind.
The butterfly has become a poetic symbol of a loved one for so many of us...few things on this earth represent the fragile beauty that the winged wonders can.
A tender tribute Lyra...very lovely
take care poetess,

One of the nicest thoughts I know I've been blessed with is the fact that perhaps there are ways we can come back to light on someone with a small touch...the fact that you have picked the auspices of a butterfly just goes to prove I am not alone in my thinking....

Stevie...Its so nice to see you back here again and thanks so much for replying to my poem

Mr.Squirrel...thanks so much for the reply and the blessing.  I'm glad you approve of the new pic.

I would like to tell all of you the story behind this poem....
While I was holding Monty's hand as he was dying, I asked him to send me a sign that he was okay...he said that he would.
During his burial, a beautiful Tiger Swallowtail butterfly which looked exactly like the one in the picture, flew up from out of his grave just as his casket was being lowered into it.
Butterflies usually do not go underground, so this was highly unusual.  It was also unusual because they were spraying for Gypsy Moths that year and we hadn't seen any butterflies at all...and in fact, saw none through that whole summer...except for this one.
The butterfly flew between his sister and me, and it brushed my cheek as it flew by...
There almost seemed to be a purpose to it's path...and everyone just watched in amazement as this happened.
Afterward, the Rabbi said that he had never seen anything like this before and that he thought it was surely a sign from Monty...although I had never told him that I had asked Monty to send me one.
Since then, I have had other signs from him, and I still feel his presence in my life, as a protector.
