today,
dad sat idly
on the sofa, flipping
pages of glossy travel brochures,
oblivious to our chatter

suddenly
understood his liking
for travel VCDs, his favourite possessions,
piled to the top in many closets

dad,
i'm sorry
i am rich enough
to go on overseas trips,
yet not rich enough
to bring you along

Very well penned...
Left me with a lot to ponder...
I like that in a poem.

wonderfully said, forlornly stated

it caused by to think of my mother...she always dreamed of many places to see, exited at the thought of it, yet travel was something she was very fearful of, being away from home gave cause for much dread

to much media about drunk or drugged pilots, bus drivers, regular drivers

she wanted to see so many parts of our world, if only the world could have come to her

even when money became available, the short trips she took were agony, though the memories were divine

I'm not suggesting this is even an inkling of the case with your dad, but it's a point to ponder, perhaps...your poem certainly made me ponder it again

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

(big hugggssssss) Oh Heng, this is so sad but well-said, sweet friend, I know how you feel and as much as I know you will both miss each other so much, he wishes you the best of luck and knows that you will always be with him! (sigh) This is very sensitive and touching, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Heng, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

thanks Nancy...i dig thought-provoking poems and i'm glad this one was one for you...may i ask just waht did you ponder?

Virginia, thanks for your heart-felt reply...much appreciated thanks for sharing your mum...i'm rather proud that you related so strongly to my musing and that you found a little bit of yourself within this poem...thanks!
hmm, why were the short trips agony for her though?

thanks Noah..just to clarify, i am still living in the same house as my dad...just that while i have enough cash to go on vacations, i don't have enough to bring my dad along...makes me feel more guilty recently since i realise that i have probably inherited my love of travelling from him...

Marie, thanks for bumping this up..i hope i would be able to make it up..but alas! i am still a tertiary student and it would be a couple of years more before i work and become finanically secure...well, i can always hope huh?

thanks all for reading...

Oh this is so touching, sad and brings up wells of emotions within me. I am struggling between feeling the guilt of not being able to bring your father along, but also some joy in being able to go. Well written.
